1. Triptans

  • 24 to 45 percent of the time, triptans start easing pain within one hour. Plus, they provide complete relief within two hours for 23 to 42 percent of people who take them.

2. Migraine prevention drugs

3. Melatonin

  •  In one study, 34 migraine sufferers took melatonin before going to bed every night for three months.
  • Two-thirds said the number of migraines they experienced dropped by 50 percent.
  • Eight were migraine-free, but some of the improvement could be due to the placebo effect.
