4 great flourless desserts for Passover

November 3, 2015

During Passover, followers of the Jewish faith abstain from eating flour or leavened bread— but that doesn't stop them from eating sweets. Here are four delicious, easy-to-make flourless dessert recipes.

4 great flourless desserts for Passover

1. Chocolate-dipped macaroons

To enjoy chocolate-dipped macaroons, simply buy a package of your favourite flavour of macaroons from the grocery store.

  • Melt 2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips on the stove with some butter.
  • Finally, once the mixture is melted together and combined, use skewers to dip macaroons in chocolate, then lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Put them in the freezer for 15 minutes, then store them in the fridge.

2. Lemon ice

For something fruity and cold, make lemon ice this Passover.

  • To make it, bring 2 cups of water to a boil on the stove.
  • Next, add a cup and a quarter of sugar and a dash of salt. Allow these to dissolve then remove the pan from the stove and allow it to cool.
  • Add a tablespoon of lemon zest and 1/2 cup of lemon juice, then place the mixture in the freezer.
  • After about 2 hours, run a fork through the ice to fluff it into a texture that should resemble snow. Let it freeze for two more hours and let the ice thaw for about 15 minutes before serving.

3. Strawberry mousse

Another Passover treat that's fruity is strawberry mousse.

  • Simply combine an egg white, and a quarter cup of warm water in a bowl and whisk them together.
  • Then, mix into the eggs 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 cups of strawberries with a hand mixer for about 15 minutes, until they're smooth.
  • Freeze the mousse for about 4 hours before you serve it.

4. Passover fudge

One of the best things about fudge is that it doesn't have anything that isn't kosher in it. So, make a delicious chocolate fudge this holiday.

For a simple recipe, use three cups of kosher chocolate chips and a can of sweetened condensed milk (not sweetened with corn syrup).

  • Mix these in a microwave-safe bowl, then microwave for a minute.
  • Stir and microwave the mixture for one more minute.
  • Pour this mix into an 8x8 pan that is greased and lined in wax paper, then freeze for two hours.
  • After two hours, remove the fudge from the pan, cut it into squares, and serve.
