7 tips for the most enjoyable and memorable graduation day

October 13, 2015

After years and years of early mornings and late night stress, your graduation day is finally here. Enjoy it, but keep in mind that it's important to remain respectful and dignified; below are some tips for a graduation day that you'll fondly remember.

7 tips for the most enjoyable and memorable graduation day

1. Start the day with a healthy breakfast

  • Starting your day in a healthy way is particularly important, as a solid, balanced meal will give you the energy boost your body desperately needs on emotional occasions.
  • A green smoothie and yogurt with cereal and honey, or a freshly squeezed orange juice and hard boiled eggs with tomatoes and avocado on toast will keep you going all day.

2. Dress in a smart, comfortable way

  • Although you'll want to look your best, don't neglect comfort. Don't wear anything too tight, revealing, baggy or scruffy.
  • You want to look mature and courteous and make a statement while staying true to yourself.

3. Don't do your own makeup or hair

  • Unless you're really good with hair and makeup, avoid doing it on your own today. Guys, this is the time to visit the hairdresser for professional grooming service.
  • Girls, why not get a makeover at the local department store? Visit the hair salon and spend a bit more than usual. It will be worth it.

4. Choose shoes carefully

  • It's not true that the higher the heel, the more dressed up you will look. Flats or medium-sized heels will allow you to walk comfortably and still look polished.
  • The same goes for guys: you don't need to try to squeeze your feet in hard, pointy loafers to look formal and respectful.
  • Choose shoes that will allow you to stand for hours and walk with confidence while ensuring that you look elegant and neat.

5. Don't make any drastic changes

  • Avoid making any drastic changes that may backfire, such as fake tanning or waxing. Don't change your hairstyle completely or dye your hair on your own.
  • Keep it simple and don't make any sudden last minute moves you might regret.

6. Make your speech snappy and fun

Nobody wants to hear the same old speeches during graduation day. Cut the length of your speech in half and get rid of all the cliche we-did-its and finally-we're-heres.

7. Bring your best camera

  • Your best camera is not necessarily the most professional one you own.
  • If you want to be free to move around, dance and go to the bathroom, make your life easier by bringing a small camera that you can fit into your pocket.
  • Make sure that the camera you choose will take pictures good enough to last a lifetime.
  • This day won't be repeated, so make sure your camera is reliable, fully charged, lightweight and easy to use.
