I took my vehicle to Crompton’s for a pre purchase inspection on a vehicle I was planning to purchase. After their findings I was given a full print out of everything and was gone through everything in detail by Gopi, the Manager at Crompton’s. He explained everything to me and after purchasing the vehicle I took it back and got Crompton’s to fix the issues they found. After scheduling my appointment over the phone, I dropped off the vehicle after hours and dropped the key in their secure key

I paid to have them scope the engine before performing any repairs so I could figured out whether it was best to repair or replace the engine. They scoped the engine and said they saw no damage and decided to perform a $1200 repair only to have it not work. It was only then they took a closer look at the engine and found expensive damage resulting in them wanting close to $7200 for additional repairs. Offering to refund the diagnosis fee $150 (which clearly wasnt done) would have nice thanks

Volkswagen recommends 100k for a timing belt replacement for good reason, a very expensive lesson indeed. As you were selling this vehicle, and wanted to repair this engine as inexpensively as possible, and knowing you would need a timing belt in either case, you directed us to install the new belt. We had the discussion about the strong possibility that you may have bent valves. If the valves were bent then the cylinder head repair would be required. Ben also told you if the valves were damaged and you proceeded with the cylinder head repair, we would not charge the labour to install the timing belt. So here we are, you have decide not to continue with the repair because of cost and we understand everybody has a budget.
