“The Burnaby Association for the South East Side raises money for five schools in this part of Burnaby, which has a huge new immigrant and refugee population who are socioeconomically disadvantaged,” says Peggy Woodruff, a member of the Store Organizing Committee that runs BASES Family Thrift Store. “So we’ve been trying to raise money for after-school programs, for camp programs, breakfast, lunch and snack programs.”

BASES Family Thrift Store was established to help with the association’s fundraising goals, offering quality used and vintage clothing, houseware, collectibles and accessories in a friendly, volunteer-run environment.

“We’re going to be providing activities and services for kids that many Canadian children automatically have,” explains Peggy, “that most of the children in this neighbourhood don’t have.” By providing South Burnaby Residents with affordable, high-quality second-hand clothing and household items, BASES Family Thrift Store is able to contribute directly to improving the lives of children who live and go to school in the neighbourhood.

Basis is a great Thrift Shop. The store is very clean and so well organized. Clothing Is displayed by colour which makes it so easy to find your favourites. There is a tremendous amount of stock for everyone's wants and needs. The volunteers are very friendly and helpful? The Manager makes sure electronics and household items are tested and in working conditions before they are put out. I highly recommend Basis.

I had been donating to this thrift store for a while. The last time I went there I had a few bags of donations. As I was leaving them at the back door 2 staff came out with a few huge bags and armfuls of stuff. I watched them walk over to the dumpsters and start throwing it in. I couldn't see everything but what I could see was perfectly good stuff. I was appalled, grabbed my donations and left. If they don't have room they could donate to a charity, not throw peoples donations in the garbage!

Well organized, nice variety of merchandise warm friendly helpful staff and volunteers. Much better experience than its competitor who has recently relocated. For a new thrift store it is very well stocked. As a full non-profit organization BASES is doing some fine community work.
