Over the years, the unpretentious grilled cheese has inspired movies and pop culture. In the 1993 film Benny & Joon, Johnny Depp cooked up a mound using a clothes iron! Some say that movie inspired a new generation of grilled cheese aficionados. However, it’s the French who can take the credit for this legendary sandwich.

Since then, the grilled cheese sandwich has jumped the pond and come a long way in more than just the geographical sense. In Steveston, the place to witness (and eat!) the end result of this evolution is Zee’s Grilled Cheese. They have transformed the humble grilled cheese into a gourmet delight with a growing list of combinations.
