Terrific choice for a delicious meal and great service!

My friends and I decided to visit Cambridge for an out-of-town getaway. We are all admitted food snobs (one is a chef), so we perused menus and reviews online before heading out (we're from the GTA). It was pretty busy on Friday night so I am glad we made reservations. We arrived and were seated by a very accommodating host (who we found out later was an owner), and served by one of the most pleasant servers I've ever encountered (perhaps his name was Josh?). Every single employee at that restaurant was happy to be at work, which may not sound important, but it is and is one of the gages I use when I'm dining out. My husband and I both worked in restaurants for years, and happy staff says a lot about the owners, chef and overall customer experience that the server is trying to sell. Josh spoke highly of the owner as well as proudly explained the food and the creativeness of the chef and his menu. The food was fresh, creative and delicious. We were really delighted. It wasn't a five-star dining experience (but you are not going in expecting that), rather, it is a twist on pub fare that will leave you pleasantly surprised. We also enjoyed that the restaurant was not 'full of itself', the staff, chef and owners were humble and grateful for any compliments and made us feel welcome and appreciated as diners at their restaurant. My friends and I were sold from the moment we walked in. So much so, that we went back for lunch the next day (it was a no-brainer) and the chef came out to say hi to us and thank us for coming back! We cannot say enough great things about our experience there. I strongly encourage anyone reading this to visit Cafe 13 and enjoy their great food and hospitality.

Great Night out

we visited our friend in Cambridge last Thursday and they took us here. The first thing i noticed was that though it is a casual place there were no TV's! our server explained to us that this is because they want people to enjoy the company at there table and not be distracted by tv's. we loved it! Cant say enough good things about the food here. we had a dip sampler, which had 3 dips and crustinis. i had the short-ribs as recommended by the server and wasn't let down. It was probably one ofthe best beef plates ive ever had. For dessert we shared a plate of 3 small portions (home-made ice cream, a chocolate bar cheese cake and i cant remember the third) anyhow i was so happy about our experience that i felt compelled to come on here and write something! thanks for a great experience cafe 13!

Great Meal

On the advice of a friend I decided to give Cafe 13 a try, and it was a good suggestion. My wife and I shared the mussels special which had very good flavours and was a good portion size. The oxtail pasta was very tasty and was very tender. I was told the pork tenderloin was delicious and I think I will have to try it next time. Our server was great and was always available when needed. (I don't have many descriptions for good service, as it is easier to describe bad things). I will definitely be going back sooner than later.

one of our cambridge favorites! Reallllly good burgers! specials are always interesting and seem to be focused on local food! Dessert menu is a little weak, but they have great homemade ices creams. Servers are always very friendly!

A great find

My grandson suggested we eat in Galt the day before Christmas Eve. Neither of us knew any of the restaurants, but since there was a very cold wind blowing we picked the first one we came to. It was our good fortune to happen upon Cafe 13. We both ordered the steak sandwich--one rare and one medium, and both were done to a turn. The fries were fresh, tasty, and crisp. I liked the place the moment we walked in. It was nicely decorated for Christmas, and looked well cared for. I would really like to dine again to see if other menu choices are as good. I was tempted to try the mac and cheese, or one of the chicken dishes. The restaurant was busy, which is always a good sign. My only complaint is that the water for tea was not sufficiently hot. When the second pot arrived luke warm, I asked if the water was boiled in a kettle. No, it was not; they don't have a kettle. My suggestion: invest in a decent kettle! Problem solved. Thank you to my grandson for a delightful lunch. Cheers!

Great lunch!

Went and had lunch over beers, HUGE props for having craft brews on tap! I had the fish and chips, they are battered differently than any other fish I've ever had and it turned out fantastic. Not sure exactly what they use for batter but it's great stuff. Fries were awesome and home-made. My girlfriend had the salmon club, which sounded kinda odd but tasted really good. Had a couple bites of it myself. Overall it was good food, place is quaint and cheerful, and the service was all right.

Sickest I've Ever Been

We stopped here after signing a lease in the area. Too bad they didn't win us over. I liked the place, music was good, and the food was ... o.k.... until later that night. I awoke in the middle of the night with extreme stomach pain and was then more violently ill than I have been in my life. I ate a burger and the table split a spinach artichoke dip... which I think was to blame. From the reviews I have read, it seems I am not alone on this one... someone should be inspecting that kitchen!!

Great Food & Service

The food was excellent, Home made fries, the steak was perfect med rare. My wife had chicken and pasta she said it was delicious. The service was excellent and the wait for food was not long at all. I would highly recommend this place and I will be returning.

2nd. visit & a little disappointing the bun on the chicken cordon bleu was stale, tasteless & fell apart. The ceaser salad was ok. Music was a little loud for lunch time. The waitress was great.

We were told this restaurant wasn't as good as it used to be, but we decided to risk it and go recently. We were very disappointed and will not be going back. My husband's pasta was very overcooked - it was also without the meat as he is vegetarian. They didn't offer and would not discount the full price for either reason. My dinner was the chicken - it was very ordinary.

Great place for a good meal, not too casual but comfortable, food always good. Will to there again.

starters cold, chicken carbonara prima vera - disgusting - chicken tasty, spaghetti was a gelatinous blob covered in parmesan cheese, probably to hide the disaster lying below. When asked by the waiter if we would like to take it home - we informed him how poor the meal was - he said that they had had similar complaints ( Gordon Ramsay would have had a seizure) I have tasted better balsamic vinegars than the house wine.

I've been to Cafe 13 a few times. The atmosphere is great and the space is very warm and friendly. The servers are great and the food is tasty. It's not cheao, so go for a special occasion. Try the saganaki appetizer!

Good food however we do expect at least a complimentary bread basket with these prices. May not return as we really miss having something to nibble on before the meal. Appetizers are very expensive.

A fantastic evening as always. we have dined at...

A fantastic evening as always. we have dined at cafe 13 many times and as always it was wonderful. service was very attentive yet not overbearing. great jazz band played throughout the evening. all courses arrived perfectly timed and without flaw. the ambiance and atmosphere were perfect for our night out and everyone raved on the way out the door. the manager came to our table to make sure we were happy and the food was ok. we will be back many times again.
