Meet the owner

Owner Fred Engler grew up as a musician and composer, which is a pretty big reach from owning Richmond Hill Deli, but his business partner, Avi Shvalbe, was born into the deli business. Fred brought the artistry, while Avi brought the decades of experience. “Since I was little,” Avi says, “I was in the food business.”

They knew that people didn’t want to just eat to not feel hungry anymore, but to feel inspired and fulfilled, and Fred designed his dishes that way. “This is our jewel in the crown, our prepared food, because we have nine cooks working in the kitchen,” describes Fred. “Everything is fresh; we make it in small portions a few times a day, so…we don’t make a lot of quantity for the whole day or for two days.” Instead, Fred and Avi prefer to cook three or four times a day and in small portions, ensuring that everything their customers eat will be as hot, tasty and fresh as though their mother made it that instant.

    We used RH Deli f...

    We used RH Deli for our Open House at Memory & Company. The food was delivered on time by the owner himself. We enjoyed the excellent pastries, cold cut sandwiches and h'orderves. The food was made fresh, tasty and was enjoyed by all our guests. Highly recommended and we would use them again.
