Excellent

Dos Amigos was a great experience. The intimate atmosphere great food and soft music made for a memorable evening. Drinks were also great, yet slightly expensive (as most things are in Toronto). At Dos Amigos we find an elegantly decorated Mexican restaurant that strives to master quality and preparation in all its offerings. The menu ranges from burritos to nachos to chicken mole to fresh snapper ceviche to filet mignon in guajillo sauce, a spicy red wine blend. The staff was small in the even smaller restaurant, but it only added to the intimacy. The staff was very helpful, always seeming to know exactly when we needed help. They were helpful and dressed very appropriately for the restaurant. I would recommend trying their martini drinks as the bartender was wonderful making them. This restaurant is a great place to bring a date. Bon appetite!

I first caught word of this restaurant from the TV show, "StreetEats". The food is decently priced if you order wisely, and it's always good to go with a friend so that you can try more dishes. Pros: Extremely tasty authentic Mexican food! The Pozole Soup and Beef Enchiladas were truly delicious! The Churros de Chocolate was surprisingly good, but I really wanted to try the Flan. Evidently, they ran out of the Flan dessert, so I recommend getting into dinner early before too many people order the Flan. Cons: Fairly slow service. Not because they're lazy, but primarily because of the small staff they have. There's only 2 servers, 2 cooks, 1 bartender. But it appears to be meant as a fairly intimate setting where the food accents good conversation and interaction with whoever you're with. Overall, it's a good restaurant to go to if you're not in a hurry to eat and leave. Definitely a preferred choice if you're looking for a change of scenery. The staff may be slow, but they're quite friendly and the food more than makes up for the speed. I am very likely to go back again because I never got to try the Flan...hahaha

Guacamole was okay, nothing exceptional. The Salpicon was amazing. I never knew a salad could be soooooo good. My friends enjoyed their enchiladas. Service was okay. It was a bit slow and they don't speak great english. They took our orders twice. Nevertheless, the Salpicon was such a treat I'd go back again and again!

What turned us off was when we got in the door...

What turned us off was when we got in the door was the server. The place was small tables very closely put together. We asked for a table for 4, however the server told us if it gets busy, she would have to move us. I asked her if she meant, move us in the middle of our meal to another table, and she said yes! The place was NOT busy. We sat at one of the tables for 2 and they were no more than 24” wide with very little gap between tables. Incidentally, the tables for 4 were not given to anyone the whole time we were there (were not reserved or on hold). We ordered the tostadas with pork for an appetizer, beef enchilada and the pollo con mole. We ordered 2 soft drinks and shared a tres leches for dessert. Hubbie had the café de olla. Total with tax & tip = $62 Pork on the tostadas was a bit chewy, the beef with the enchilada was very tough and chewy; some pieces were burnt to a crisp. The pollo con mole was mediocre and warm, Service was slow and NOT very friendly.. There were two servers and one in particular had a VERY bad attitude in general. My husband was extremely put off. Even though the service and food were bad, the evening went well as two guys came in and sat right beside us. Again, tables so close together, the poor guys could barely fit into their seats and had trouble each time they had to get up. We struck up a conversation, asking what each had ordered. It was not their first time and they mentioned the patio was nice, if the weather was warmer. We originally thought to try the guacamole, but changed to tostadas. When the guy’s guacamole came, it looked great and they even offered for us to try it. They were insistent and we were so blown away by their kindness. We chatted throughout the meal, and they gave us some great tips for other restaurants to try. Dinner was over and we looked over at the table on our other side. I asked how the tres leches was, but they weren’t too pleased with it. They were kind enough to ask us if we’d like a bite and we politely declined. We couldn’t’ get over how friendly the customers were! The café de olla was extremely disappointing. We weren’t expecting it to taste as good as what we had in Mexico, but the coffee was burnt and had too much cinnamon in it (my husband said to disguise the bitter burnt taste). The two guys beside us had espressos and when the bar tender came with the bill; they commented that the coffee beans were burnt. The bar tender looked at them and said, “What do you mean?” He walked off and chatted with the server. We whispered to them, “Yours too??” The server came back and says, “Was there a problem with your espressos?” We felt badly at this point because the guys say, “Don’t worry about it,” but the server is making a big point about it. We decided not to mention about ours, but too late, the bill comes without our asking for it. We won’t be back!
