While pizza ranks pretty high on most favourite foods lists, many people settle for delivery when the craving strikes. For those who want something a little more refined than your average slice, Pizzeria Defina is sure to get you off the couch and enjoying thin crust, wood-fired pies in the heart of Roncesvalles.
“The whole passion stems from the wood oven, growing up we always cooked on an open fire," says Roksolana Curkowskyj, a Toronto native of Ukrainian heritage who first opened the pizzeria back in 2012. That love of the outdoors and of authentic food informs the very ethos of the restaurant, and makes diners feel as though they are right at home from the moment they step through the door. "There's true respect for the craft and a lot of appreciation for what we do."
This family-friendly joint in Roncesvalles lets diners choose between Neapolitan or Roma style dough so you can satisfy your personal crust preferences. The menu features traditional favourites and inventive new varieties. The Roncy is an obvious neighbourhood favourite topped with fior di latte, Yukon gold potatoes, pancetta, asiago, cracked black pepper and rosemary. Don’t forget to check out the dough-tossing skills on display from the chefs in the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant.
