Kontact Sports, located in Galeries Laval is chock-full of martial arts equipment. Every inch of wall space is covered in gear from boxing gloves to protective pads, traditional swords to Sais and nunchackus. That in no way means they want to load customers up with gear they don’t need. “We’re all very honest here. If we don’t have or we can’t get, we let our clients know, and we look for an alternative” explains assistant-manager Colin Narsted. “Every industry is so sales-driven – we’re more and more saturated with billboards, there’s ads on every app for your phone. Buy, buy, buy! But if you don’t need it, don’t buy it. I’m not going to sell you on something you don’t need just to make a buck.”
What separates Kontact Sports from their competitors is their personal touch. The interest to get their customers exactly what they want, to the best of their ability and expertise. “We’ll actively look for items for our clients,” explains Colin, “‘Do you have this?’ they’ll ask. No, but we have this or that. If they don’t like it we take their number and if anything changes we give them a call. Colin has called a client back after more than a year.
