Meet the owner

There are three pivotal moments of the day for Daniel Labrosse and Petra Schiemann, owners of A la Carte B&B: welcoming guests upon their arrival and breakfast after which we explain Montreal from A to Z,” says Daniel.

And the third is to have a nice cold beer together in the living room or on the terrace. “It’s a great way to make people feel at home, especially in the summer,” he says.

Located in Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie, A la Carte B&B is a one-minute stroll from the Masson Street's urban village. “Guests who stay here don’t want to be downtown, they enjoy the peacefulness and the amenities on Masson Street.”

Masson St. is not one of Montreal’s most notorious or famous neighbourhoods, but “we have great BYOs (for example Madre), restaurants like M sur Masson, and bakeries like Les Copains d’Abord. “You see a lot of businesses from the Plateau who have migrated here,” says Daniel. “And Café Lézard is my favourite,” says Petra, who emigrated from Germany, and was originally a guest at the B&B. She left a career as an export-import trading specialist to join Daniel.

“The magic words were when Petra told me ‘I love paperwork,’” chuckles Daniel.

“I was struck by the diversity of people in Montreal,” Petra says.

Montreal’s creative, open-minded and dynamic culture has rubbed off on Petra’s more formal European personality. “She has definitely changed,” says Daniel, though he is still the more outgoing of the two, which is why they make such a complementary team.
