Though Le Mal Necessaire is considered a “hidden bar”, the neon green pineapple above the stairs will definitely grab your attention. Once you head down the stairs of this Chinatown bar, coming back up might be a bit shaky as you indulge in tiki-style cocktails. Their cocktail list is long and they make a lot of their own syrups and tonics in house. And if you’re sitting at the bar, you’ll be mesmerized by the expertise of the bartenders and how much fun they’re having.

This tiki bar located in Chinatown boasts some pretty amazing cocktails! It’s located in a basement that’s only marked by a lit up electric green outline of a pineapple. Fung Shing is the Chinese restaurant upstairs and part of their menu is available at Le Mal Nécessaire below. We love their tiki cocktails that are available in a pineapple or coconut for that Caribbean feel. This fun bar also regularly hosts a Drunken Masters competition amongst the city’s best mixologists.

Take a culinary tour of Montreal’s Chinatown
Located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, down a staircase lit by a neon green pineapple, Le Mal Nécessaire is an exotic tiki-inspired cocktail bar. Those who wish to accompany their drinks with a light meal of Chinese food can order dumplings from the restaurant upstairs, Fung Shing. A quick glance at the menu of Le Mal Nécessaire reveals multiple influences: Spain, Portugal, Mexico, the Caribbean, China... The rather sparse decor consists of two main elements: a countertop bar at left, flanked by high stools, and on the right, three circular, straight-backed wooden benches, similar to those seen in Mexico.
