Bacon and barbecue are both big restaurant trends, sure, but healthy eating trumps everything. Patrons are searching out wholesome international cuisines and demanding contemporary menus feature healthful options. Here are several eateries that serve such good-for-you grub.

Korean Village Restaurant

Barbecue beef (bulgogi) may be this cuisine’s signature dish, and though this is not a cholesterol-friendly dish, Korean food is largely about wholesome ingredients such as rice, vegetables and delicious red-pepper paste (gochujang). At critically acclaimed Korean Village, try the dolsot bibimbap — rice and veggies served in a smokin’ stone pot.

Wholesome and light, sushi is a natural for diet-conscious diners. Hailed as one of Calgary’s top sushi spots, Sushi Bar Zipang serves just such healthy fare. Start with daikon radish and smoked salmon salad and move on to a selection of sushi pieces and rolls or simplify your order with an assorted sushi or sashimi entree.

Mediterranean is in. Widely touted as one of the most healthful of international cuisines, it’s good for you and tastes great. Settle into a selection of fine Mediterranean dishes at Aida’s. From creamy baba ghannouj and Greek salad to the falafel sandwich, halibut tajen and chicken couscous, this is healthy eating with real taste.

The quintessential Mexican meal, tacos are also a relatively scarce commodity in Calgary. However, we’ve done some digging and unearthed the select few restaurants that make truly marvelous versions of these hand-held snacks.
The city’s summer season features a delicious dance card of culinary festivals and events.
