I took my son to Swiss Chalet two weeks ago for a chicken dinner (1/4 with fries). Consistently good. The waitress was attentive, and knew how to keep the baby at the table next door happy (crackers, crayons, drinks... STAT!). When my wife and I went out for dinner the next week, where did my son go? This place is overpriced for what you get. My friend and I shared a light dinner, a glass of wine each and tea, and our bill (with tip and tax) came to $100. I ordered the gnocci in tomato sauce, which was very good, and the bread was tasty. But for a meatless meal with no dessert and no appetizer, the prices are too high. It seems like you're paying for atmosphere. The service was pretty good, but at the end when it got busier we had to signal for service. I think there's better value out there for the money. The Congee Star is some of the best Chinese food in Don Mills. For lunch, this place is a zoo! Come early or come late but DON'T come at 12 o'clock and expect a table right away unless you are Jet Li or Jacky Chan. The reason for this is the food is very good. By supper, the office crowd has retreated to the 'burbs from whence they came and getting a table right away is not a problem. Remember though, this is not a fast food factory, good food takes a little time. The beef with ginger and onions is excellent. As is the Cantonese chow mein. The beef brisket on lo mein is very tasty. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Booths are to be found on the outside and tables and chairs are in the middle. Read more
