Why take in happy hour when you can do halfy hour? This contemporary Mexican eatery and tequila bar on the Fourth Street Southwest restaurant row goes half price on all tequila and tacos from 3 pm to 5 pm every day. If the idea of a mid-afternoon tequila shot isn’t your thing, Añejo also offers happy hour beer and tasty margaritas for a good price.

A bloody good drink: Quintessential Caesar spots in Calgary

Known for its loco list of more than 100 tequilas and creative margaritas, Añejo is no slouch when it comes to cocktails, including the Caesar – theirs features tequila blanco in place of vodka. As you’d expect, the Mexican restaurant brands its drink with a fiery flare, serving up the Caesar Diablo with habanero, lime and a pickled jalapeno.

Table for one: Super solo-dining spots in Calgary

There’s enough quaffage in this joint tequila mockingbird (boo, hiss). But seriously folks, Añejo stocks more than 200 tequilas, served by folks that can tell you a thing or two about the spirits. Located in the multi-level structure that once housed the legendary Fourth Street Rose, it’s a funky place for friendly banter at the bar and vibrant people watching – but not for quiet dining, unless you arrive between mealtimes. The tableside guacamole is amazing, and I can’t visit without ordering a chili coconut margarita. Or two.
