Guu to open, but is the very first Izakaya in Vancouver. Established in 1993 as 'Raku' & changed to 'Guu' in 2000, this Guu offers the most authentic izakaya experience, offering classic dishes like Yaki Udon & Oden. This is as close you'll get to the real deal....unless you fly to Japan.

Not many restaurants open after 10pm on a Thursday for a late night bite along Robson. The service was average as there was a slight delay to order but the beer came prompt which kept us occupied until our grilled calamari and pork cheeks arrived along with the yakisoba. Pretty good in taste overall. The yakisoba was udon based which was not what I was expecting, and not much meat or vegetable but pretty good.

Best Restaurant in Vancouver

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. If you like Japanese cuisine this place is unbelievable. It has a lively ambiance with orders being called across the restaurant. The service is fantastic ... and most importantly the food is divine! I LOVE the Tuna and Salmon Tataki ... the beef carpaccio is incredible. Tako Yaki is delicious ... honestly everything on the menu is just amazing. Downside? If you dont make a reservation or go later in the evening the line up and wait is LONG ... so be prepared ... but it is worth the wait!

Guu Garlic was the very first izakaya I visited in Vancouver. Guu has a few locations but the Robson Street outpost offers the best experience in my opinion. Expect screaming servers, the exchange of Japanese throughout the room and the long list of small plates that are best enjoyed sharing style. It stays true to its name, which means you’ll likely walk away with a garlicky breath (something to note if you’re heading here on a date).
