Meet the owner

The story of Steamworks Brewpub begins — as so many beer stories do — in Belgium. After graduating from law school, Eli Gershkovitch visited Europe in the mid 1980s and developed a taste for Belgian beer. He knew there was nothing like it back home, though, so upon returning to Vancouver he began a decade-long quest to establish a brewpub. But the city was still years away from its eventual craft beer revolution, and arcane, restrictive liquor laws didn’t make it an easy pursuit. There’s a reason Vancouver has so few brewpubs.

Nonetheless, Eli’s persistence paid off — his legal training being as essential as his appreciation of good beer — and in 1995 he opened Steamworks Brewing Company near Waterfront Station at the western entrance to Gastown. It occupies the lower levels of The Landing a landmark 1905 building that originally housed a wholesale grocery business supplying miners on their way to the Klondike.

    awesome

This is the place I visited when I cam to Vancouver for the first time. In that sense, when I noticed people having a great time there, it always puts a smile on my face. This time, although it was quite busy as usual but my friends and I were seated promptly. Friendly server whose service was simply a top-notch. This place's got everything: a great atmosphere, something different from other run of the mill restaurants in town and also more importantly great food! This place is the perfect blend of bar and restaurant in the evenings which I easily enjoy most for the night out. Above all, their Bellini and French 75 are to die for!

    Grteat Views and Historic Feel

This resto pub seems to go on forever. Almost warren-like their are many rooms leading from one to the other that gives this place an overall funky feel. A seat on the main floor affords spectacular views of Burrard Inlet and the patio is a great place to catch some rays. They have a very decent selection beers and a good drink list overall. The food is great for a pub and good overall. The service is generally good but it can get a little poky if they're busy. With well placed TVs around the room they are also a good place to go catch the game. Check out Steamworks for a little bit of everything!
