The safety of a yacht and her crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper, or Captain. Understanding his must be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging, sails and all gear. He must ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained and stowed and that the crew know where it is kept and how it is to be used. Since 2004, the mission of the Vancouver Sailing Club (VSC) has been to provide adults with a fun and a comprehensive sailing education that exceeds internationally recognized certification requirements for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced recreational sailing.     Took a coastal navigation course in January ito prepare for cruise in the Virgin Islands. Excellent materials and met 3 Members of the sailing club.

    Day Skipper Certification at VSC

    Wonderful time was had by all on our Day Skipper cert. course this weekend. Thx to the crew Dave, Ralph, Bev and Janice for being so patient. Thx skipper Carl for your passion and talent as a teacher.

    My husband and I were first time sailors on a 7-day Gulf Islands Cruise2Learn aboard "ClaraAllegro" with VSC in September 2015. We had a cabin with sleeping area the size of a queen size bed and a food plan that included breakfasts and lunches. This was our best holiday ever, and our Instructor "Carl" was certainly the highlight. He was able to take 5 "prairie people" through a progressive daily system that resulted in us becoming confident certified coastal Day Skippers. We are back in 2016.

    Don't go here - bad idea.

    This is not a school i would recommend for any introductory sailor. The capt., Carl, was rude, belittling, and did not give us adequate time to think through tasks, and when we were too slow, we were yelled at and spoken down to. The agreed dates were changed, location (cost us a night of hotel), and meeting points. Just the biggest waste of a week of our holidays. Good place if you enjoy getting yelled at, belittled, stressed, and beat down.
