Meet the owner

Few can claim to have one of the largest indoor climbing centres in the world. Maria Izquierdo, co-owner of Horizon Roc with her husband Benoit Theroux, are able to do just that.

A series of coincidences gradually led this former gymnast, who also completed her studies in physical education, to develop a professional expertise in the area of indoor rock climbing at a time when the industry was just starting to take off. It was Benoit who triggered the opening of their own centre and soon, Horizon Roc opened its doors to the public.

    Very irresponsible and very dangerous. My 11 years old nephew fell and got fractured but he was very lucky because it could have been much worse considering how high he was. The responsibility of my nephew's safety was in the hands of 2 kids with no experience or training.

    Horizon Roc Climbing Centre is one of Montreal’s largest climbing gyms. They offer over 300 routes for the seasoned climber, and easier ones for beginners. In addition to the large climbing surfaces, they also have a large indoor high ropes course and a 25-metre zip line. The gym also offers many introductory classes and clinics, and it’s possible to book parties and corporate or team-building events.
