Salisbury Greenhouses Ltd

The beauty of the workshops offered at Salisbury Greenhouse is that they’re free to attend – you simply need to purchase your own supplies. Workshops typically last between 60 to 90 minutes. Popular workshops include hanging flower baskets, fairy gardens, build-your-own terrarium and succulent window frames. You can attend one of their public workshops, or book your own private function. Devonian Botanic Garden

Perhaps it’s fitting that the University of Alberta-operated Devonian Botanic Garden offers a wide-range of adult workshops for those with a thirst for knowledge for everything from art and photography to, of course,, gardening and landscaping. Learn all about orchids, budding and grafting, growing a bonsai and creating a feng shui garden. For the serious gardener, there’s a Master Gardener Program designed to teach you all the skills required to kick-start your career in horticulture.

Prairie Gardens & Greenhouses

Who better to learn gardening tips from than those who run a farm? Gardening workshops and demonstrations are on a drop-in basis and, best of all, are free. Learn to grow prairie fruit in your own backyard, make a fairy garden and grow your own herbs to make custom teas and add flavour to your favourite dishes. End your day with a RGE RD gourmet dinner, serving delicious farm-fresh meals.

Greenland Garden Center

Adult gardening classes are offered on a seasonal basis, with spring sessions running from April to June and fall/winter classes from September to December. Topics include pruning and landscaping, starting seeds indoors and preparing your yard for the cold freeze. Be sure to register in advance and feel free to bring a study-buddy.

Edmonton Horticultural Society

The EHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the craft of gardening. They are the lovely people behind the Front Yards in Bloom competition and various garden tours. Their Monthly Speaker Series is free for members; non-members are charged a small fee at the door. Hear industry experts speak about a wide variety of topics, such as urban bee keeping, preserving your harvest and year-round gardening tips. Hands-on workshops are also offered periodically.
