Artisan Resto-Cafe has been a mainstay in historic Old Strathcona for over ten years. We are located on the north side of Whyte Avenue, in the lower level of the Garneau Building which is formerly known as Saint Joseph's hospital. Initially started as a bakery-café, our family-run business has evolved into a premier breakfast, lunch and brunch destination in the area. The menu, which includes freshly-baked Artisan breads, offers North American and regional ethnic fare that is sure to satisfy small or large appetites alike. We offer a large selection of specialty desserts which are a great way to finish your meal or are enjoyable combined with something from our coffee bar as an evening treat. Meet the owner

Whyte Avenue in Edmonton has always been a special place for the Jaffer family. They’ve lived and ran food businesses in the area for decades, so when a small bakery came on the market in 2002, Saiyed Jaffer and his mother jumped at the opportunity: the area, the culture, the food industry; it’s all a part of their family history.

Saiyed and his mother saw the chance to create something different for the people of the historic Old Strathcona district of Edmonton. They rebranded the bakery, calling it the Artisan Resto-Café, and put their heads together to deliver top quality food with a laidback European atmosphere.

“My mother is a baker and chef by trade so together we came up with the concept, and have run with it since then,” says Saiyed. “At the Artisan Resto-Café we still do a bit of baking, but it’s not as big a part of what we do anymore. We’ve evolved into a breakfast, lunch and brunch destination. My mom is retired now, but still helps out every now and again.”
