Meet the owner

Historic Old Strathcona with its centrepiece shopping district, Whyte Avenue, has long been the go-to spot in Edmonton for trendy stores, great food and vibrant nightlife. Since 1993, The Billiard Club has been at the heart of the strip. “It’s had the same owners since the beginning. They’ve developed a great personality and atmosphere," says Sierra Haldorson, general manager. "We stuck with that core and continued to evolve with the times. We have regular customers that have been coming since the '90s. We focus on that part of the business.”

The Billiard Club recognizes the importance history plays in the neighbourhood and they have integrated that history into their décor.  The pub is located in the old post office building built in 1912. From the dance floor, you can see the inner workings of the original clock tower that still rings every hour. The restaurant’s main cooler is the old safe. It’s all part of Whyte Avenue's vibe. “It’s interesting to be in an area with so much foot traffic," says Sierra. "It’s very different from other areas. People cab down here and go to a few different bars, so it’s a real community.”

Old school date night in Edmonton

Old school date night in Edmonton

An institution on Whyte for more than 20 years, this big venue is a great place to rack up some old school billiards. The space, on the second floor of the historic post office building, is open and warm with hardwood floors, exposed brick and dozens of well-maintained tables. Open every night – with half-price pool on Sundays – the club has a full menu, including a combo shot platter for sharing.
