Project (PMH1 Project) includes construction of a new 10-lane Port Mann Bridge, 37 kilometres of highway widening from Vancouver to Langley, including 30 kilometres of new HOV lanes, and the replacement of nine highway interchanges. Eight lanes on the new bridge opened to traffic December 1, 2012, significantly expanding the capacity of the existing five-lane bridge, and removing major highway congestion points at either end of the bridge. In December 2013, additional Highway 1 lanes opened west of the bridge, connecting improvements from Langley to Vancouver. Travel time surveys have confirmed drivers have cut their commutes by as much as half, saving some commuters up to an hour a day. These improvements have also made transit service across the bridge possible for the first time in a generation. The new ExpressBus service, a joint initiative of the Province and TransLink, now connects Langley to Burnaby in less than 25 minutes.
