Vancouver is a city known for artistic flair, and Make on Granville Island certainly lives up to the city’s expectations. Stacy Hall is the owner of the creative shop, which overflows with unique wares and gifts, many of which can be personalized to create a special treasure. "Make has evolved into a fun and funky hub for artisans, design lovers and customization," she says.

Thanks to Make's impressive technology, visitors can customize many of the store's wares so that each purchase is as unique as the owner. Everything from wood to leather to clothing can be altered in a matter of hours, whether via embroidery, digital T-shirt and fabric printing, laser engraving, button making and more. Customers can also create their own work of art using the colourful button-making station or The Make Designer, a Vancouver creation that enables users to design their own shirts, pillows and totes online or in store.

    Granville Island’s longest-running retailer specializes in quirky, one-of-a-kind apparel and accessories for creative types. The vast majority of the handcrafted products are made in Canada by local artisans and designers, and there are quite a few up-cycled and recycled finds for eco-conscious shoppers. When it comes to winter-weather must-haves, we love the whimsical variety of pillows: some are animal shaped (the stuffed raccoon is surprisingly adorable) while others are embroidered with cheeky sayings like “I love you more than bacon.” You’ll also find toques and beanies and a solid collection of cozy blankets from Pendleton and Klippan.
