Havelock Garden Restrnt

You can only get take out here since covid, and the prices keep going up, there was an increase when I ordered in January 2024 and again today, and not by five cent, we are talking price increase of $.65-$1.00 on just about everything on the menu, I have been going there for many years and has always been good but it keeps going down hill, this is the last time I will not be going back. This time the green peppers were old, bitter tasting and the beef was old and no flavor, etc.

From the outside you may not be enticed to go inside, but we did and it was nice and clean and the food was ready quickly and was good. Nice family working together there.

great buffet

There are only 10 or 12 offerings but if it's fresh it's so good. The chickens wings are the best anywhere and the won ton soup is the best anywhere. It's a step up from the buffets in Belleville and Ptbo which have 40 substandard offerings. Decor is dated but I don't care. Waitress was great, by herself and better than most waitresses with less to do,

Always fresh

I'm always satisfied when I eat at Havelock Garden. We drive by their front door every Friday night on our way to our country home. I phone 20 mins before we get there, order a #2 and a #3 (combo meals) and the happy servers always have my neatly packaged food ready to go! Once we get 'home', we enjoy the hot and ready food.

I usually get take-out, this time when I went to pick-up my order, I happened to see the cook and he was coughing in the food ( disgusting) I hestitated to take the order, but then when getting the food home, in one of the dishes there was a piece of plastic. I was not impressed. This restaurant use to be the best place to eat around the Kawartha's back when the father ran the place, but the son's run it now, and it is starting to go down hill. I should have let them know how I felt, but didn't. Not sure if I will be back again or not.

The buffet

The food was hot and seemed freshly prepared. A small wonton appetizer was served before the meal which was a nice touch but it was a bit cold. There were about ten different dishes under the heating hood. Food was refilled promptly. It was the same kind of things that seem to be at every chinese buffet. Shrimp, chicken balls, greasy hard chicken wings. The vegetable dishes were very good, actually. The desserts consisted of gluey jello and rice pudding which I passed on. The decor is old and tired and a glimse into the back of the cooking area when the doors opened looked the same. Don't know if I would go back.
