Was disappointed

Went a few years back and loved it, this visit was disappointed. The vibrant tastes were gone. We do not like super hot (like vindalo) but do like some heat and this lacked any heat. Seems like they have gone overboard to Canadianize the menu.

I went to this restaurant with great expectations, but was very disappointed. I ordered the Tanduri Garlic Chicken which was coming with Palau rice and salad with a side order of their plain yogurt. The chicken was dry and wasn't properly marinated because the meat tasted like cardboard and the Palau rice was just boiled basmati rice. As an Afghan I know what Palau rice is, and it was not even close to it. The Salad was two whole leafs of lettuce, three rings of white onion, a little chopped red and green cabbage with some cheap ranch dressing on top. The menu said that the yogurt is home made and I love homemade plain yogurt. It was sticky and thin like honey that it is not suppose to be. Over all it was very unsatisfactory. I would not recommend this place to any person especially those who are familiar with Middle Eastern cuisine.

One of the Worst Indian I Have Ever Had

I got take out from here one night. Got chicken curry, onion bhaji, eggplant, naan and rice. The food tasted so bland and so lacking in flavour I wanted to throw it all out. Such a disappointment. Can't believe this is suppose to be the best Indian food in Kingston. Someone told me that eating at the restaurant is better. Perhaps I will try the one downtown.

Does not merit "the Best in Kingston" title

I have lived in the Emirates and various parts of the GTA. My experience of Indian food in all of those places was always hot, flavourful and best of all, good value for your money. Such is not the case at Curry Original. Service was very slow, it was almost an hour before we received our food. The naan, I will admit, is quite good. The food was decent, not the best I've had (home made Indian food is always better) and the portions were very disappointing. When I order curry, I expect a large plate of curry, not a small casserole dish with 5 pieces of lamb in it. Maybe that's how "fancy" restaurants roll but that, I don't think is the philosophy behind Indian food. This experience was pretty disappointing. Next time I have an Indian food craving, I'll suck it up until I get home to TO.

Top 3 Indian Restaurant in Kingston

I had a hard time ranking this restaurant, I dont believe it is "great overall" but it is not simply "adequate" either. Much of the food is very good (best Naan in Kingston) but some of it falls short and is very Canadianized... too sweet not enuff heat. If you are in Kingston this is one of the top Indian restraunts around, but it does not rival any big city indian restaurant.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Kingston and I have eaten there many, many times. The atmosphere is lovely - clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful and make us feel not only welcome but our business is appreciated. As vegetarians, we LOVE the large selection of vegetarian dishes.

We went to the Ontario St location (downtown) as we have in the past. Our last experience was NOT pleasant for the drinks were watery not thick and the naan was burnt but this time around we were pleased with our meal as it was similar to our meals there in the past. We always order more dishes for the variety and for leftovers! For those not accustomed to eating at Indian restaurants, the dishes are designed for sharing and allows for trying different ones each visit. We will definitely go back.

seinfeld episode.

you wanna read a script for seinfeld...keep reading....ill will try to keep statements brief....stood at door for a while with no staff visable....were sat in dining room directly next to the only other couple in the entire restauart...were immediately told not to order and of the breads because they didnt have any...the couple next to us tried to order dinner and, after choice after choice, they were told that they dont have that today....they left to go elsewhere...our order was taken but unfortunately we were only allowed to order 1 appetizer because that was all they had...while waiting for food a beverage would have been nice but none was offered and the waiter was no where to be found...another family was sat near us and they waited patiently for about 15 minutes before getting theie coats back on stating that it would have been nice to at least been given some water (and laughing)...my first chair was covered in sugar and stains, and my second chair had to be exchanged for a third after the waiter proceeded to pour my dinner on my lap...clean up was non existant....he put an unfolded napkin of the part of the mess on the table...a few times he said he was giving us something complimentary but when we got the bill i asked and apparently it was my pop refill that was the freebee....isnt that pretty much standard these days....well anyways, i did get $1.50 for free...food was overpriced....2 boats of sauce and meat for $24 and then we were charged $6.50 for a plate of rice because there bread that came with it was unavailable. Upon leaving we realized that the take out section is what was causing him to be so unavailable....there were about 7 people sitting around waiting, all looking a little troubled, all with a little plate of food in their hands (to try to keep them calm, im sure)....another episode in the works im sure. The seinfeld comparison is because when we were leaving, one of the take out customers said she felt like she was in one and we agreed....if you go, bring a camcorder....you may be able to sell it as a pilot for the next big comedy show. lol

Tasty Tasty Tasty!

We visited the uptown Princess location after happily frequenting the downtown location many times. The service was terrific and the butter chicken is the best I've ever had - this being significant after traveling through India and across the globe. A must try! Whether you do for a meal downtown or uptown you won't be disppointed.

Love it!

It's pretty apparent, that the clown who is consistently giving this food a "1" is the same person - at least try to switch up your writing and spelling skills when posting under different names, so it's not so glaringly obvious what you're doing. Anyway....the food here is VERY good. The samosa's are to die for! Don't pay attention to the fraudulent claims of bad food by the one poster who is posing as others to bring the restaurant rating down. Shame on you.

Excellent (one on Ontario St)

Took a while to get our orders taken, but once the food arrived, it was a great experience. Delicious! Naan was sweeter and thinner than others I've had. Not everyone was a fan, but I loved it.

Wine pairing was terrible - should have got Kingfisher beer. Food was quite tasty, but proportions were obscenely small. I am Indian by descent - the Indian food experience is supposed to involve purchasing a variety of dishes and sharing this variety amongst your friends and family at the table. The price and serving size at this restaurant makes it impossible to do. Service was adequate. Owners are extremely pleasant people. Ambiance is gorgeous, especially the patio. My suggestion is to try cooking Indian food yourselves. Kingston is unfortunately devoid of the 'real experience'. Dishes are overpriced and generic.
