What is a Midwife? A midwife is a primary health care professional who provides expert care to women with normal pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives also provide care to both mother and baby for 6 weeks after the birth. Prenatal and postnatal appointments include sharing information, providing education about choices, nutrition counselling, breastfeeding teaching, and regular check-ups of the mother and baby. Continuous care by midwives means that women are cared for in a holistic way.
