My praises to the cook - Sept 2013

I was travelling and dropped in for a quick lunch. Just a bowl of soup, but the detail and care put into its preparation - croutons, cheeses, a hint of sherry. My praises to the cook.

Good food a bit pricey. Excellent atmosphere and service. One of the better in the area for sure

    Avoid this place

Have visited The Shipwreck several times in the past and been quite satisfied. On that basis, decided to visit again. Big error. Menu is now drastically overpriced when compared to restaurants of similar nature in Perth and Ottawa. All in party decided on lowest priced item -- fish and chips -- because this had always been reliable in the past, despite the staggering price of $21 (for fish & chips!!!!). Chips were fine but fish -- admittedly generous portion -- was straigtht from a box of uniform, frozen chunks and virtually taste-free. To top it all off, kethup and vinegar for chips were offered in the kind of little plastic envelopes you get at a fast food joint. Seriously! Not even a chip truck would stoop to that level -- but, note, the plastic stuff was served up in a fancy fruit nappy. Very classy. The only plus was that the servce was attentive and the beer, at $5.53 for a full pint, reasonably priced. But twenty-one dollars for even well made F&C is ridiculous. The Shipwrech is now permanently off our lists.

    Yummy:)

This is now my favorite restaurant! My family brought me here for my birthday. Service was excellent, food was incredible! Such a beautiful restaurant over looking the lake, couldn't ask for anything more. The staff made my birthday so special, and I can't wait to return to have the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and asparagus. This place has been highly reccomended by friends, and I will now do the same.

    EXCELLENT EXCELLENT

This place is magnificant, me and my husband came for dinner while passing through the area! it is a quiet spot on the rideau with a spectacular view. We sat in the screened in patio, and were very lucky as it was quite busy there that night. We orded the shrimp cargo and scallop cargo to start and it was delicous and the complimenty bread to top was great! For entrees the schitzel and prime rib was leovely and well priced. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful, would most deffently make a special trip back for another meal!! 2 thumbs up!

Made a reservation that day, when we arrived they couldn't find it in their book. The hostess took care of the problem right away, got us a lovely table on the screened in patio. Piano player right on the water. Food was excellent, service was great. Took a while to get the food, but restaurant was full. Would return again in a heartbeat.

    Dissillusioned

With one exception, the food was excellent especially the scallops. I ordered the fish and chips($17.00) on the recommendation of two in our party who has ordered that dish on a previous occasion. The fish batter while crisp was thick and the fish inside was dry. To compensate for the dryness I and one other in our party asked for more tarter sauce. We each received the extra sauce in a small paper cup similar to those used in hospitals to dispense pills. We were both surprised when, on receipt of our respective bills, there was a charge of $.95 for the extra sauce. Considering the price of the fish and chips I found this most disappointing and consider the extra charge to be nothing short of gouging. It is a shame when an establishment stoops to such action and in the long run will only serve to hinder rather than promote its business. The least the serving staff could do is advise the customer the there is an additional charge involved. For anyone planning to visit this restaurant, I would suggest that when ordering any extra condiment, you first inquire as to whether or not there is a charge for same. Will I return to this restaurant? Most likely once again but I will be careful not to order anything extra. Difference entrees ordered by others in the party looked and were very appetizing according to the comments of the other parties.

    Highly Recommend

Dropped in on a busy Friday evening (Aug 13/10)with no reservation. Great table in the dining room at the window. Warm evening and ceiling fans were on high and blowing menus off the table. At our request waitress immediately turned them down. Hard to find a great restaurant in the country, however, here we succeeded. We shared the scallops appetizer - excellect (appetizers are a little pricy $15). Each of us ordered the special for the evening, Prime Rib- done to perfection. Entree at $29 was a good price. Good selection of wines, fairly priced, properly stored in a wine cooler and served at the correct temperature. I ordered a small side of sour cream to mix with my horseradish and was a little disappointed that there was an extra charge ($.95). Service was excellent. Overall a very good dining experience and we will return.

    Ridiculous pricing

We asked if we might eat inside as we had 2 older ladies with us (1 is 89 the other is 76) as it was cool in the screened patio area - the waitress did take us inside to the dining room - 1 was a visitor from England and we wanted her to have a NICE lunch while visiting in this area. Party of 4 for LUNCH - all had "The hamburger Basket" $11 each - 3 coffees and a gingerale- 2 creme brulee and 2 raspberry chocolate gelatos and oh 2 glasses of water - PRICE $95.48 GUESS IT WAS THE WATER THAT PUT THE PRICE UP!!!! We don't mind paying for good food and the hamburgers were good but they were hamburgers!! Did we leave a tip??? yes but we probably won't be back Do restaurants read these reviews??? I doubt it!
