Great Roti, kooky storefront

This little hole in the wall is not where you go for "fast" food. The Roti and the jerk chicken are delicious, you just have to wait (and wait) to get it. Definitely a take out option (not dine in). Nice flavours and generous portions.

Wish I could have had some

On 6/30/2012 I came from Burlington to Peterborough in hopes of eating food at this location. When I arrived in Peterborough (11:30 am) I called ahead to find out if they were open or not and was told they would be open at 12:00 pm. When I arrived on site the employee told me they will be ready at 1:30 pm. Just a big waste of time making the effort to go there. In Burlington our Roti shop (D Hot Roti) opens at 11:00 am and the line up is right out the door.

Excellent food, not to be missed if you love roti

The best roti this side of Canada. Not the best environment however, the owners love what they do and their food is infused with love. Can't beat their jerk chicken and boneless chicken roti. The best!

The roti here is spectacular. They have goat, beef, chicken, veggie, etc.. Just enough heat in the curry, great potatoes, huge portions. So much flavor. It is the best roti I've had, period. The jerk chicken dinner is also very good. That being said, I have heard some horror stories about the cleanliness of this place. I love that the owner has decorated the place to make it seem like a cultural oasis in an extremely white city, but it just NEEDS TO BE CLEANER. I don't want it yuppiefied. So, stick to food that has high turnover, like the roti. The uniqueness and quality of the take out at a place like this is something that I would actually miss if I moved away from peterborough. That is saying something. The food is the only reason it is worth risking eating at a place that looks like it could not pass a health inspection.

Best Roti around

I know the title does not say much as you probably cant find any other roti in Peterborough. that being said, the food here is incredible, as mentioned by other reviewers, the atmosphere can be scary at times, but the food never suffers, they have a small patio so take it outside or to go.

Goat Supreme

I love the food here, whether the rotis or the dinners. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but if you can't handle that, get your order to go, or hit the patio. The food is delicious and consistent in my experience. My personal favourite is the goat roti or dinner. I have not had better since I raised and ate my own goats.

BEST FOOD EVER!

If you want the best food on the planet with great people making it, get yourself to the Island Cream without delay! I crave veggie rotis ALL the time, and I am just not satisfied until I have had one! The veggie rotis are only 5 dollars and they fill me to the brim! The samosas are scrumptious and are a very good price at 1.25. The food is so spicy and the homemade tamirind sauce is a perfect mate with any dish! I will keep going back, because there is nothing better!

Wonderful little rotti shop. If you're looking for authentic caribbean cooking you found it. Portions were huge and we paid less then 10 bucks each for meals that could have easily fed two people. The employees seem to enjoy them selves. On telling the guy at the counter my friend had never had caribbean cooking before his eyes lit up and he pronounced, "Best food in the world." I have had better jerk chicken before but not any where in central ontario. The patio ragged, sitting next to Gerti's didn't help. In closing, Good carribean food, friendly service, shabby furniture. Best carribean food this side of durham region.

I love this roti, and crave it, however, last time the meat was spoiled. That is totally not acceptable. I just threw the takeout in a garbage can. When the meat isn't rotten, the roti is very good. I except that a place that serves halal would be very careful about their meat, but I was wrong.

Interior needs work and more attention to cleaning however the food is fantastic and very resonably priced. The two of us ate until we were stuffed and it cost just over $20 including a $5.00 tip. Will definately return but will likely retreat to the patio.

I was first introduced to Island Cream about two years ago when I walked by and had a peek inside their window. The chef working there waved me in and promised me the best sandwich in Peterborough. I figured I might as well give it a try and I wasn't dissapointed. Island Cream is one of my favorite places for quick and delicious food for lunch or dinner. I most often get Roti to go, but recent interior paint work has greatly improved the atmosphere if you should choose to eat in. Their style of food is a healthier alternative to other quick foods available downtown. To compliment their distinctly Carribean cuisine they offer a wide variety of Carribean fruit juices and ever popular mango milkshakes. Island cream also has the distinction of catering to vegans. Meat is available in their rotis and other meals; however their uncompromisingly tastey vegetarian Rotiis completely animal product free and is only five bucks. I would highly recomend Isaland Cream for a quick and casual lunch or dinner to anyone who enjoys good food.

The food is delicious. I've had rotis in Grenada and Toronto, and they're comparable. Very savoury, tender meat, generous portion and a steal for $7. However, the restaurant, washroom and kitchen are filthy.

An absolute hole-in-the-wall of a place in what is becoming one of Peterborough's restaurant hot spots - but still worth lunch. The service ranges from indifferent to friendly and chatty. The front end of the place could stand more attention (lose the dead pop fridge, be tidier with your stock, clean up a little more promptly). That stuff aside, I visit often for a beef roti. Inexpensive, well prepared and tasty. Not excessively spicy or with too much curry, so managable for most. Quite savory, ask for more pepper if you're looking for more of that Caribbean heat.

This a very basic restaurant- unmatched furniture, not licensed, "early beat-up" decor. HOWEVER...if you like a roti, it's hard to beat in Peterborough. Absolutely delicious, and quite large. (makes two lunches for me)

Service can be slow, but worth the wait. Best to call ahead for takeout. Goat curry roti is as good as in Guyana and that is saying a lot! Even my mother-in-law (big mama) approves.
