Terrible customer service by Anna. Puts me on hold by slamming the phone down but could still hear her talking.

I love this place...

I love this place! I go there at least 1/month. I never had any not fresh fish there, and always leave happy. I can't vouch for the teriyaki menu since I don't order it, but the Sushi is very nice. Some of my favorites are butter fish sashimi, salmon flower and spicy crab. It is also very reasonably priced for all-you-fan-eat

nice place in the east end

The ambience is smart casual, nice if you are out with your pals. Friends and I go 3-4 times a year. The waiters' service could be tweaked for the better: they are sometimes curt, especially during peak hours. The food selection is considerable, food quality is better than average and it arrives in good time. And the all you can eat option is super if you've been starved all day.

Good food/weird service

We love the all you can eat menu here. We come back a couple times a month only for that fact. The service isnt well, bad but its strange how every time we order the all you can eat, something we ordered doesnt come. This always happens to the point where it is almost funny. I'm not sure how you can not see that something has been ordered if its been written down (they give you those sheets of paper to write out). The servers never seem to know what we are talking about when we say something is missing. Its not a huge deal because you can just order more. I feel bad for saying this but I dont think the servers can speak english very well (which is fine) but they dont smile or are engaging at all. Im not expecting a show or you to bend over backwards, just a smile lol. Does anyone not wonder why you always have different people coming to your table? It seems disorganized. I work in the industry and it would work alot better if they had 1 server assigned to each table. That way if theres a mistake they know exactly who to talk to and one person knows exactly whats going on.

My good friend and I usually dine at Makimono ocassionally. It is true with the waitress' that they have a language barrier, however they are really friendly and if something is wrong they will fix it immediately. My good friend Doug got me into going to Makimono since I got him hooked on sushi. Even when it wasn't renovated, the restaurant still had a good atmosphere to it. Since the renovation, the atmosphere improved dramatically. As for the food, I found that the food was DELICIOUS, same with my good friend so we usually come back over and over. Makimono is one of the few sushi restaurants we repeadily visit over and over again. As for the all you can eat, it's worth the price and a good deal compared to other restaurants that we have been to so far. Therefore, if you're looking for all you can eat sushi for a good deal, Makimono is the place to go. There should be a Makimono in Oshawa or Bowmanville.

Great variety for all-you-can-eat and excellent lunch takeout

I probably frequent this place about once every 2 weeks. Here's why you'd go to Makimono in Pickering: -- The All-you-can-eat is not the cheapest around but it has the best variety by FAR. If you like Sashimi, their all you can eat has a great selection including salmon, surf clam, octopus, squid, butterfish, tuna, and many more. Their sushi Salmon Flower is tasty and beautiful--a must try. They include seaweed salad (one of my favourites and one of the most expensive menu items) on their dinner menu, as well as Unagi (BBQ'd freshwater eel--deelish!!) sushi, pizza and over rice. They also have an excellent and creative assortment of maki that exceeds most menus I've seen. Try the love roll (it's shaped like a heart!) or the Tropicana roll (with fresh mango). -- This place is always packed and their dining room can accomodate big groups without issue, as well as being newly renovated and tastefully decorated and designed. It can be quite loud due to the busyness and lack of soft surfaces in their dining room (sounds bounce around)... but it gives it a "happening" vibe, and is far preferable to the awkward quietness of many dine-in sushi restaurants. My mom refuses to go to most restaurants in Pickering (she's a food snob), but she frequents this place, and believe me that's saying something. -- Their takeout lunch maki specials available between 11am and 3pm each day are a wicked deal. 2 roll (12 pieces) is $6.95, and 3 roll (18 pieces) is $9.95. 10% off if you pay cash, and they come with free soup and salad.

Probably the best sushi I have ever tasted!! There all you can eat menu contains a variety of different sushi and other food. Everything is made fresh to order. Other than great tasting sushi, they have fresh made chicken teriyaki and chicken wings. Best sushi restaurant hands down

This was one of the best tasting sushi resturants...

This was one of the best tasting sushi resturants ive been to that offered all you can eat. The food presentation is excellent as well as that authentic Japaneese taste. Excellent for people unfamillar with the Japaneese cusine to taste and try the food as if it was prepared specifically for you. Good experience and nice asian atmosphere. Recommended!

We had lunch at Makimono today and it was...

We had lunch at Makimono today and it was excellent. We arrived at 11:40 am (Thursday) and by 12:00 pm there wasn't a table to be had. I have noticed that it is always busy and the parking lot is always full, now I know why! We enjoyed the all you can eat buffet. You order from an a la carte menu but the items are all you can eat. The price tag of 11.95 was reasonable and included a drink and dessert. We had a variety of appetizers, mains and sushi. All were excellent! The waitresses were a little hard to understand but they did an excellent job taking our orders, answering our questions and bringing out hot and delicious food. Items were brought out as they were ready so there was always a steady stream of dishes being delivered to the table. We found that we finished everything that was brought to the table as opposed to a buffet where you take too much and alot is thrown away. The portion sizes at Makimono were reasonable and we ordered extra if we were still hungry. (We ordered the vegetable tempura twice because it was great) I would highly reccomend this restaurant and we will definitely go back.

I don't understand why people are complaining...

I don't understand why people are complaining, it's a new restaurant it still needs to work out its kinks. Like any growing company and person they will learn from their mistakes. Yes the first time I went there it wasn't an overall enjoyable experience because it seems like the workers don't understand or speak much English and waiting for food was brutal. But other than that the food there is great! Especially considering it's an all you can eat sushi buffet. All you have to do is know how to talk to them, you want your food out all at the same time they'll have it out for you at the same time. The workers are actually really friendly, and it's not because I'm non-Aisan, I went there with my Asian friends, I was the only non-Asian, and they treated us the same way they did everyone else. other than that the sushi is priced adequately and it tastes great! I will keep on going back to Makimono!! P.S The building they bought use to be Pizza Hut =)

FIrst off, I don't get what having to be 'asian...

FIrst off, I don't get what having to be 'asian' or 'non asian' has to do with getting good service or not. Sounds like the last reviewer EXPECTED good service because they were Asian? I want and expect good service wherever I go. With that theory, should I get BETTER service at a Burger place because I am a white person? Ridiculous. This was my second time at Makimono and I brought a non white friend with me who loves sushi. Both of us were thoroughly impressed with the freshness and quality of the food. Being "all you can eat," he was a bit skeptical about how good it would be or what to expect, but everything was consumed and enjoyed by both of us. I like the fact that it's not a big 'help yourself' buffet style table. Everything is ordered and delivered fresh to your table. It's true that the servers aren't the best at speaking English, so it' s a bit of a struggle to get information about certain food items when you have a question, but they try and are very friendly. I have already recommended this place to others and will continue to go back. The fact that it was a Tuesday night and a full house, has to serve some indication that the food is good too.

YUMMY!!!

This place is absolutely delish!!! I've been there twice and both times we ordered off the all you can eat sushi menu. The price is fantastic, the food presentation is great, it's clean, the food is fresh and the service was pretty quick. Yes, there is a language barrier with some waitresses but that's only a minor detail. Weekend dinners are $22.99 per adult wich includes all you can eat sushi, drinks (pop or ice tea) and ice cream. It's a shame that this place isn't closer to where we live or we'd definitely eat there more often. They need to open up more locations throughout the GTA.

Very good!

I had not been a big fan of sushi in the past but was asked to go to the new Makimono restaurant in Pickering. I was hesitant about how an all you can eat sushi restaurant would operate. I was really impressed. You basically order what you want, it is prepared and the waitresses bring it to you when it's done. It's like ordering off the regular menu but endless! Sweet...... Anyway I was feeling adventurous and went mainly for the temaki and sushi. I did try the calamari which was nice although a little chewy, I didn't think the teriyaki chicken was all that great but my girlfriend had two orders.... The avocado and California maki were nice to start, of the three temaki I ordered the spicy salmon was by far the best, the other 2 had less flavour and left me wishing I'd ordered more of the salmon. The star of the show for me was the butterfish sushi. It was a simple presentation of delicate tender, almost melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I am by no means a sushi expert but I thought the meal was great, the service excellent (although the server we had was difficult to understand when describing the menu, this has already been mentioned below).

Really good deal!

I am honestly impressed by the value and quality of the new Makimono in Pickering. There are many different items to choose from in the menu. Presentation of the meal is very nicely done. All the dishes I ordered, as well as my friends, looked like they had a lot of effort put into the dish. Service is good, although some of the waitresses do not speak english very well.
