Meet the owner

There’s one space in Toronto that both emerging and mid-career artists can call home: Project Gallery Toronto.

Run by Alex Buchanan, Callen Schaub and Devan Patel, this Queen Street East space nurtures young talent and helps blossoming artists continue to thrive. Both Callen and Alex are OCAD graduates, while Devan brings a theoretical touch with his degree in philosophy and aesthetics from the University of Toronto. One thing the three all have in common is a desire to see art in Toronto grow to the heights it deserves. “We’ve begun to develop a roster of artists that we work with who are primarily up-and-coming, emerging artists who are making a difference with their artwork,” explains Devan.

It’s important to the trio that individuals be able to express themselves through creative means and they’re doing everything they can to foster that talent and determination. “I think it’s the ability for art to elevate someone’s experience,” Alex says of why they’re so strongly drawn to art. “And for people to be able to experience and be able to connect with artists who are making this their practice ― that is very valuable.”

Being an artist is always challenging, but in today’s tech-focused world it’s harder than ever to get the visibility and exposure needed to make art a career. To help artists along the way, the guys host exhibitions every week at Project Gallery Toronto. All new artists have to do to start the submission process is reach out through email.
