I had found it hard to understand so many...

I had found it hard to understand so many unfavouarble reviews for Pepperberries, I have eaten here many, many times and always enjoy the service and food. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, as it seems like I am at a completely different restaurant than those leaving the horrible reviews. I'll be back again soon!

Below expectations

This restaurant was ridiculously overpriced for what we got. The lamb mains came with veggies that were barely warm and were very dry... as if it sat there for a long time. The waiter was a pain, he would not leave us. I couldn't believe it. We will spend our money elsewhere...

The decor is quaint and not obnixious and when I made the reservation, I told them it was our anniversary and they gave us argueably the best table. The crab fondue was tasty and light but nothing to write home about. My husband's lamb was excellent though I ordered the chicken and it was pretty dry but moderatly well prepared. The highlight of the night was definitely the sticky toffee pudding that we shared for dessert. The waiters pushes it on everyone but with good sense. It's one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. A note on the service. The waiter really was a bit over the top. We wanted to have a nice romantic dinner and though he was REALLY nice (and not that phoney nice), he sometimes talked too much. So much so that I wouldn't suggest you go there for anything romantic, but with a group of friends for a fun evening. But that being said, I wouldn't really recommend this place for anything other than dessert. I mean, it was reasonably good but I really didn't feel like we got what we paid for. Our meal was almost $200 and normally when we spend that, we want something that blows our mind. Oh well - lesson learned.

I had the evening special which was Kangaroo and it was absolutely delicious!!! I am so glad I tried it!! It was served with a wonderful mashed potato and veggies. As part of the special you had a choice of two salad options or French Onion soup and desert of a Mini Sticky Toffee Pudding. I chose the French Onion soup which was delicious as well, not salty at all, however I think if I were to have this special again, I would opt for one of the salads, as the dinner is very filling and you don't want to miss a mouth full!!! As for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, I had my arm easily twisted to upgrade to the regular sized one and oh my goodness what a wonderful dessert!!! Hubby was glad that I upgraded as he got to enjoy the left overs when I got home, as this was a girls night out for my Birthday. I also enjoyed a lovely glass of the Lindemans Bin 85 Pinot Grigio and a cup of coffee with dessert. The two friends that were taking me out had nothing but good things to say about their selections as well!! OH and the fresh bread with their own infused oil and balsamic vinegar is not to be missed either!! It was a wonderful first time experience. I can't wait to go back with my hubby!!

My fiance and I had our first visit to...

My fiance and I had our first visit to Pepperberries this evening for dinner. We arrived around 7:30pm and were quickly escorted into the empty dining room. The food was fantastic. The spinach and artichoke fondue was perfect for sharing and their homemade tortilla chips were delicious. My fiance's steak was cooked to perfection as was the pork tenderloin. The portions were very generous. Our waitress was quite attentive but gave us space to enjoy our dinner. Our only complaint was that the coke was flat but when we mentioned it they took it off of our bill. We will definitely be going back to Pepperberries!

We were very disappointed with the restaurant overall. THe decor is lovely although a little too dark when trying to read the menu. THe bread served with oil and vinigar was extremely tasty. The shrimp appetizer had four jumbo shrimp but they unfortunately had no flavour. We left two out of the four and unfortunately our waitress did not ask why they were not finished. (we did not want to get into a discussion at the table or make a scene as the tables are quite close and we did not want to embarass anyone. The steaks arrived and were served warm, not hot. We sent one back to be cooked more so it was hot. The lamb was ok but did not appear to have the sauce described in the menu. The garlic potatoes had little flavour. The chicken dish had about four little pieces of mushroom and appeared to have no brie. We had wine a lovely spanish wine (the girls) and the men had a few beer each. Our meal was $221.00 and we feel it was certainly not worth that amount. We enjoy going out and don't go to expensive restaturants often, but when we do we are usually very pleased. This was not the case. Too bad as the restaurant has a lovely menu that sounds very appetizing. We were highly disappointed.

I have to say I was pleasantly shocked by my...

I have to say I was pleasantly shocked by my experience at Pepperberries. I was a little worried when I read the reviews where they criticized the service and food. I'll get to the service in a bit but first the FOOD. The glazed duck salad and the spinach fondue were amazing and the portions were very generous(the fondue is perfect to share with two people as an app). The tilipia was cooked to perfection and the curry noodles was hot, spicy and delicious. The chicken was very juicy and the stuffing was a perfect match (I'm not a big fan of couscous)...again the portions were enormous and for about $25...not that expensive. Now on to the service...our waiter was funny, personable, and very helpful. In fact, when he offered coffee, I asked if they had Ice Coffee and he said No but he can make one for me...how much better can service get when the waiter makes something special for you. Same with the dessert, we told the waiter we weren't interested (because we were full) but he said they will make custom size the dessert for us (which was a very sinful sticky pudding). Fantastic! I don't know what the complaints about Pepperberries is all about...the bistro is in a house but once you get in...it's cozy and dramatic. I hope Brooklin and Durham realize the gem they have in their backyard because the food is comparable to Toronto but the price is fit for Durham.

The experience was very pleasant, the food superb and our server was delighful. Casually elegant ambience, certainly a must-do again. The flavours are fantastic, and though some (like the asian salad and sesame peanut dressing) are bold and others milder, they seem to fit together harmoniously. The martinis were very nicely balanced as well. I don't know what happened with some of the more negative reviews, but our visit was excellent. If I had to look for fault, the seating is adequate, but could be more spacious and comfortable. Portion sizes were generous save for the expresso; when mentioned however, another was brought at no charge. OUr server was excellent and handled several tables quite effectively. My suggestion: Go. I bet you'll like it.

My family and I had a great get together. We...

My family and I had a great get together. We were situated upstairs in the beautiful surroundings. The special was blue marlin with a caper sauce and couscous. Many of my family members ordered this dish and were delighted with it. The portions were quite generous. Our waitress Cathy was very attentive to our needs. My father always orders a steak and was quite pleased with his choice. We stayed until closing but did not feel like we had to leave. The dessert was excellent as usual. My family will definetely return and so will I with more friends.

We love going to Pepperberries, we have been quite a few times. The service is always marvellous and the food delicious. The free appetiser is a wonderful idea because, I have tried things I probably wouldn't have thought to order. Thanks again!

Rack of Lamb is fantastic! as well as the Sticky Pudding! This reastaurant is a must try as the service is spectacular, but make a reservation ahead of time. Be prepared to pay a little more but the quality is well worth the splurge!

The Atmosphere is grat, resonable wines and terrific service! However the phillo crusted chicken had way to much goat cheese!!! It became unedible after a few bites. Three other people in our party ordered it and we all agreed, but the other food was good. The sticky toffee pudding was a big hit.
