Meet the owner

They say good things come in small packages, and The Little Yoga Room is no exception. Since 2007, owner Kara Thorsen has been using this cozy room in her home in Villeray to teach her students yoga the Iyengar way. In this form of yoga, variations of poses are structured sequentially to ensure maximum engagement of mind and body through a gradual progression.

“Yoga has a beginning, but it has no end,” says Kara, whose classes are not the typical drop-in type, but more like a course, a journey for those who are serious about yoga. “Yoga the Iyengar way is the proper way it should be taught. It’s a discipline. It’s not an activity. It’s not something that we should be taking lightly, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a life choice, and you don’t have to be as committed as I am to that life choice, you don’t have to make it your entire life and change your house and everything, but it should be something that’s a priority in your life.”
