Meet the owner

Émilie Gagnon is a real Jane-of-all trades. The 29-year-old chocolatier talks about her job with a contagious passion and has energy to spare. While sitting in her pretty little shop on Wellington Street in Verdun, she talks about the unusual path that led to the opening of her own business in this thriving neighbourhood.

Émilie, originally from Quebec City, loved baking and dreamed of becoming a French teacher. She decided to study baking at the Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ), which she completed along with her BA. In her spare time, as surprising as it may seem, she also studied management science and wrote a novel.

"I did chocolate-making at the ITHQ as part of my pastry course," explains the entrepreneur. "I fell in love with this culinary art." After rigorous market research, she decided to open Les Chocolats d'Émilie in June 2014 in the growing and still affordable neighbourhood of Verdun.

"I love Verdun. I love my neighbours, wonderful shops like Fromagerie Copette and the Chat Noir," she says. "The borough is very welcoming for young people who want to start a business. I had a lot of help and incredible mentors to start my business."

    WOW! J'adore!

    Un vrai trésor sur Wellington! C'est un des meilleurs chocolats que j'ai goutté à Montréal. Je conseille très fortement à tous les passionnés de chocolat! Les gâteaux d'anniversaire sont délicieux et les cupcakes sont succulents!
