I try and hit up Rodney's whenever I am in Van. Located on trendy Hamilton St. it's got some serious character. Sit at the bar for a great view of the oyster shucking and some lively chat with the bartenders. Staff is friendly with plenty of personality. They have an oyster happy hour 4-6pm (if I remember correctly) where it's half price oysters. And seeing as many of the oysters and ingredients come right out of the ocean around BC the food is beyond fresh. And in case you were wondering, this place has the best selection of oysters I have seen yet. 11 different kinds on the last visit. My favorites being Fanny Bay and Kushi. I typically just go for pho or noodle/rice dish at a Vietnamese restaurant. I came here with a party of 8 and was pleasantly surprised of other dinner options available. We preordered several dishes including crab, oxtail, lamb popsicles, braised fatty pork with eggs in clay pot. We started with a shredded chicken salad, spring roll and shrimp rolls and in chit. The daily dessert option was creme brûlée. It frankly all tasty very good but a bit greasy so ok once in awhile. The service was ok. Read more

The four of us had a wonderful meal. We ordered 8 dishes to share and that was maybe one dish too many. We tried the kale salad, sweet potatoes, bacon pizza, burrata toasts, tortellini, meatballs, cavatelli and clams with mussels. It was all very good. The service was friendly and excellent. Huge wine menu from reasonably priced to the high end. Our ordered was taken by iPad and it was cool how she was able sequence the dishes out. Nice modern decor with a tasteful bird scheme of course.
