The Writer's Festival provided the opportunity to visit this restaurant twice in one week.
What strikes one immediately, besides the very loud fountain by the door, are the warm and welcoming smiles of the staff.
I was famished when we arrived at 5:00 PM. When our food came, very quickly after we ordered, I though that the servings seemed awfully small. Our meal arrived piping hot, the Jasmine Rice was wonderful, fresh and light and the Pad Thai and shrimp dish were very beautifully presented and very colourful.
I am very much a foodie and I want a restaurant to give me an experience I am unable to create in my own kitchen. What Talay Thai provides is food that is a riot of flavours – seemingly five to nine distinct flavours flowing over your taste buds simultaneously. It works and I am now curious as to how I can recreate these multiple flavour sensations in my own kitchen.
Our second meal was exactly the same as the first. Warm greeting, quick but unrushed service (great for pre-theatre or event dining), deceptively small looking servings, but incredibly tasty, attractive and filling food. We choose another shrimp dish, this one made with coconut milk and a tofu and vegetable dish. Everything was perfectly cooked and what is most striking about the food is the sense that every ingredient is incredibly fresh. Both meals were delivered to our table at their peak of perfection.
As we arrived early there was plenty of free parking adjacent to the restaurant.
This is the perfect place to shift from work to relaxation mode. With their quick service Talay Thai is also an ideal place to eat if the next part of your evening includes getting to your entertainment venue, well fed all while feeling unrushed.

I've been going to Yangtze for years. It's definitely the best Chinese food you're going to have.
Their "midnight snack" menu is excellent, but I usually end up ordering dim sum a la carte due to how much I like it.

We wanted to get am early lubch, so got in at opening time, precisly at 11.00 and were shown immediately to a table, only one customer arrived before us. We got the menu and iced water right away. There are 155 items on the menu, so we read for a while. The server took our order as soon as we were ready and the meal was served quite quickly. This was good, because the place filled up by about 11.45.
We were given our banana dessert before we had quite finished, but decided that was ok, given the crowd. Both meals, and our shared dessert were delicious.

I ate here with my family and we were delighted to find another teppanyaki place after losing our favourite one in the west end, and being disappointed at the Village. I am disabled, and access use an issue that they cannot solve at that location, but they do everything that is possible to make up for it. We know our teppanyaki, and were very pleased. Got home. Tired! Hungry! So I decided with my friend to try the Golden Star as we are new to the area. Wow! What a great choice we made. We used the JustEat.ca site to place our order and we were impressed by the pricing and the low delivery charge. Well we had our food in less than 30 minutes at our door and it was hot and fresh with a polite smiling delivery person. Everything was as ordered and the taste was super. The portion sizes were huge as we'll be finishing the rest today. I highly recommend Golden Star as we'll be back.
