I would said Matoi Sushi is one of these authentic Japanese restaurants that still serves the traditional fare. The restaurant is own and operated by Japanese people, and their service shows just that. They were courteous and friendly. Overall, I find their food quite good and would definitely recommend. I had a fantastic dinner here with my friends! The double dragon roll and spicy salmon sashimi were so good and I loved eating every piece. They also have some fantastic affordable combos as well. We stuffed ourselves with so much food that covered the entire table but the bill was still affordable. Servers were fairly busy but still polite. No wonder this is my go to sushi restaurant Read more

Japanese and Sushi Restaurants in Port Coquitlam BC

Sushi, miso soup, rice dumplings, there is so much to consider when choosing the ideal Japanese or sushi restaurant.  Before you base your choice solely on the menu plastered outside of a sushi bar or from someone you just met off the street, here are some simple tips to guide your stomach to the best Japanese cuisine in Port Coquitlam BC.

Tips on how to find Japanese and sushi restaurants in Port Coquitlam BC

  • Japanese restaurant reviews: Online and newspaper Japanese restaurant reviews in the food or lifestyle section are your best tools when trying to find top sushi bars in Port Coquitlam BC. Most reviews rate Japanese restaurants by atmosphere, portion size, price and service. These independent reviewers have no one to please but their finicky tastes for all things from the land of the rising sun.
  • The concierge always knows: If you are travelling in a new city, your hotel’s concierge or the hotel staff will be able to find Japanese restaurants that suit your taste buds and budget. The concierge will be able to lead you in the right direction and even place a reservation for you or a takeout order for delivery.
  • What you’re looking for: Authentic Japanese restaurants and sushi bars serve raw seafood and rice inspired dishes. Typical dishes include rice dumplings, tofu, shellfish meals and sake. If you are looking for a particular Japanese dining experience or all you can eat sushi, call the establishment ahead of time and ask if they serve your favourite dishes.
  • Ask the neighbourhood: Most local seafood and wine vendors deal directly with the Japanese restaurants and grills in your neighbourhood. Ask them about the restaurants and bars they deal with and the kinds of meals they serve.
