(Harlem on Queen) After a weekend of dining at pretentious good-for-nothing restaurants (re: Spice Route) we decided to settle for Harlem, my bf's idea as the location of this place is easy to miss with so many other eateries surrounding it. We had the brunch/lunch menu. The waitresses were very attentive. Served right away. Food was quite tasty, although the only negative part about it was that it came out a lukewarm. The catfish lafyette was delicious! Yam and yukon hash was good, but would've been better if served hot, as potatoes tend to get rubbery when it gets cold. The ribs were not bad either. There was a lot of food on the menu that I wanted to try today, so I'll definitely go back , maybe during dinner the next time. Read more

I have been going to Satay on the Road off and on for the better part of 15 years and have never once in that time had a disappointing meal. The food is always fantastic and despite having tried a myriad of different items I always come away from Satay satisfied. Of particualr note are one of the appetizers and one of the mains. First, the appetizer. Golden Baskets. They should call them by their full name...Golden Baskets of Amazing Tasty-ness with Just the Right Amount of Flavourful Spicy Goodness. I guess there isn't enough room on the menu for that though. These and the spring rolls are the perfect combo to kick off your meal. The second is Cashew Nut Chicken. I still hold Satay on the Road's Cashew Nut Chicken up as the gold standard for this dish. On a recent visit it made me miss Toronto...it is that good! The drinks list is kitschy too...they have their cocktail menu on those paper place-mats that used to be all the rage back in the '70s. Ah nostalgia. Anyway, located in the heart of Bayview Village...the area not the mall...Satay on the Road is a must dine for anyone who loves Thai and Malaysian food! Read more

I was in Shakey's a year ago and it has completely changed, I visited recently with some girlfriends and we had a fantastic meal. The owner has renovated the entire place to give it a 2010 pub look and has still kept the theme of a sports bar. Good job on the reno's, the menu looks great with some of the typical sports pub food such as nachos, hamburgers and wings. However the rest of the menu is quite amazing, from my understanding the waitress mentioned that Chris is a new addition to the staff and is the brother of the owner. He actually is coming from fine dining and is now helping run the kitchen. I will be back again and this time were bringing our husbands. Read more

Katsura is tucked away in a separate, but connected, building right beside the main building of the Prince Hotel. The food here is very good but only slightly better than the cheaper places in the area. The teppanyaki tables are good. The sushi is fresh. The prices are high and the portions are not particularly large. So why would someone choose this place over its cheaper competitors? It's the decor and the service that makes this place stand out. From the moment you step in out of the snow, you are surrounded by tasteful Japanese decor. In the main dining area, the place is elegant, simple and to the point. The nachos are to die for, and I don't even like nachos very much. The menu was severely limited due to the incredible business that is Pride Week, and I was at a stretch finding something vegetarian and to my liking. After being told that they were accepting no substitutions (understandably, but I just wanted no mayo and onion on the veggie burger), I went with my second choice, the curry. I wasn't expecting much, but it succeeded my expectations. Not fantastic and it needed more than a sprinkle of salt, but pleasant nonetheless. Co-diners raved about their nachos and pulled pork. Service was a bit scattered due to business, but were very friendly. When a beer was brought to our table that wasn't ordered -- but welcomed! -- he let us have it on the house. With a beautiful upscale atmosphere, fun and not pretentious, he is going to give the others on this King St West strip a run! Excellent food, great friendly genuine service.
