Been twice in the past month-once for dinner and a lunch. The space is small and has been busy but accomodating on both occasions. You can buy fresh fish to take home from a counter as you come in. They serve a basket of warm little grainy rolls to start along with glasses of water. My companion's halibut, declared the best ever, sat perched on julliened veggies with a light citrus sauce as the days special. My jumbo shrimps were perfectly done in a garlic sauce. The glasses of wine were more generous than one usually finds. The fish and chips came with fresh cut fries and a small homemade coleslaw. Nice and crispy. Our only disappointments were a cup of lobster bisque-thin broth vs the creamy concoction I was expecting(Maybe I don't know bisque) and crab cakes which came as two large balls with a uniform minced texture. Hard to tell it was crab but tasted ok-Generally everything coming from the kitchen looked wonderful. Read more

My Wife and I decided for our first anniversary to try something new. We saw the tapas concept on the food network and wanted to give it a try. We used this very webiste to find the 222 Lyon Tapas Bar. When we arrived we found a place that some people would call small cozy. We were greeted by our waitress Kathy, who took the time to explain exactly what we were in for, we then asked what would be suggested, best decision we made was listening to Kathy. We had the best croquettes, the terragon Pork....well YUM was all we could say. Then we came to a problem, we had no more food and were still hungry, we then met Dee Dee, whom then suggested we try the mussles, my wife and I had never ventured into mussles, so we took the suggestion, and WOW, they were HUGE, tender and the sauce (which we discovered is a one of a kind) was AMAZING!! We are 100% going back, no questions asked! If you haven't tried tapas GO NOW overall the expierence was awesome, the food was a new walk on a different path with each plate. I read all the reviews prior to making reservations there. It seemed to me that the bad reviews were from folks that did not know what to expect and were surprised when they got there. The web page is quite clear of the menu and venue. I saw it and was not surprised when I got into the restaurant. We went for dinner before a show at the NAC. The server was at our table promptly and even asked if we were going to a show so that she could ensure our service and food would allow us plenty of time to get to the show. Very thoughtful and the service remained top notch throughout. Our appetizers were great. Our dinners were very good, the fish was fresh, the steak was done exactly as asked, the duck confit melted in your mouth except for the crispy skin...which was perfect. The sides were appropriate for the meal and also delicious but the 3 root vegetable mash that came with the Duck was extraordinary and deserves mention..Some had desserts which were declared as a real treat. We were in and out in time for our show but never hurried or short changed in our dinner. A very good experience overall. Pricey? Well, it was everything that was posted on the web page so no surprised at all. A very good spot with very good food and caring , professional servers. Just what you want for a good night out. An out of the way little house that looks like a local take out pizza joint. Walk in and there are a few tables. Sit down and order and get some of the best Italian food I have had in Ottawa. Ask what the special is, you never know. We stared wit a sausage appetizer that is to die for, flavorful and spiced just right. There were 6 of us so we all ordered different things and tried each others. There was not a loser in the bunch. Skip the insalata, it is just greens on a plate. The veal picatta was outstanding and the pastas were great. Get the house wine, the night we were there it was a very good valpolicella. My cousin from Holland (owner of a travel agency) wanted a special menu with a capable Chef and a special place to celebrate his 50th Birthday on holiday in Canada. He found it in Slackoni's. The setting on the water was intimate and relaxed with music supplied by a classical guitarist. This was a multi-course meal and each was delivered with great presentation style and flavour. The group was delighted with anti-pasto dishes of vitello tomatol, smoked salmon, mini portabello mushrooms stuffed with shrimp and a mouth watering caprese salad. Moving inside to a cozy adjoining party room we were treated to a tasty seafood fettuccini pescatore. The main event was elk tenderloin in a maple bbq glaze. And for those who like desert, the ultimate..the zucotto "italian bomb cake" Amazing! As per the menu, the wine was also chosen to compliment each course. It was a great event and everyone was thrilled. Our european guests, so used to eating in Paris were very impressed!
