Definitely the best bar / restaurant in the area. Great Patio in the back and very cozy atmosphere inside. This is a designated heritage building and there are old pictures of the area on the walls which is a nice touch. The food is great and it's a mix of Italian, Mexican, American. What I like most is the open kitchen. The food is prepped in the open! It's a refreshing change from almost all other restaurants that prep food behind closed doors (makes you wonder what's really crawling in the kitchen). The Bar has good selection on tap and there is a comfortable lounging area in the back by the fireplace as well. If you are looking for something in this area, I would definitely recommend going here. Read more

I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. Now aside from that, I've been visiting this restaurant for roughly 20 years. My Mother and I found it a long time ago looking for a good Japanese restaurant that wasn't all the way downtown. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. I have plenty left over for lunch and am hoping the tempura will crisp up under the broiler today! Thanks to A.J. & staff for making it a lovely experience with my needs ;o) Read more

Mars uptown is a classic diner with a twist -- it's got a fun mars / space theme to the decorum, and overall it's well kept, clean, and above average of what you can expect from the traditional greasy spoon type diner. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict which came, as excpected, with two poached eggs, on english muffins, and peameal bacon, with some potatoes and a slice of orange. Overall the presentation was good for a diner. The orange was sliced in twist and nicely displayed, the eggs benny were artistically smothered in hollandaise, and the potatoes looked greasily tastilicious. So how was it? Well those benny fans among us will know how difficult it is to achieve the perfect benny. This was not perfection, but was above average, decent in every way. I'm still on the search for Toronto's best eggs benedict, but if I had to go back to Mars and have another I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. So first of all the waitress asked how I wanted the eggs poached -- a good sign. If they don't ask you know you're in trouble. Unfortunately, even though I asked for medium poached I got one medium and one hard egg. Not a meal breaker, but still not so great. The hollandaise sauce was a little on the gelatinous side, but was flavorful, so I can forgive the consistency. It wasn't the best hollandaise I've had, but it certainly wasn't the worst either. The peameal bacon on the other hand was awesome. I'm actually not a big fan of the peameal (I prefer standard), but they did it right -- grilled to perfection, and the slice thickness was just right too. The english muffins were the standard affair -- toasted too lightly for my liking, but I don't get in a knot about the muffins unless something is terribly wrong. The potatoes looked and smelled amazing, unfortunately they failed to deliver the same oral "oomph" that they give upon the first visual inspection. Maybe more spices would do the trick, or add in some cheese. They were fine though, it's not like I didn't eat them, I just wasn't wowed by them. As for the service, nothing to complain about. The service was actually quite good considering the diner type atmosphere. Warm, friendly, adequate in speed. So, to summarize, Mars is a decent diner with decent food at good prices. I wouldn't hesitate to go back if someone else wanted to go or I was hungry and passing by, but I'm definitely still on the search for a really killer benny in Toronto. Read more

The service is not the same at the Casey's near AMC in Scarborough. The service here was outstanding. Came in on Yelp recommendations to get a quick bite. Turned into a gourmet experience! Margarita- Only had better at an authentic Mexican place in Bradford (MexiCanada). Wonderful traditional flavor and properly made and presented. Dry Rib- Excellent. Wonderful taste, not overwhelming the meat, meat done to perfection. Was told it was more spicy than the wet rib, loved the heat. Had it with a nice Malbec Coleslaw - best I have ever had. The sauce was creamy but light and didn't overwhelm the veg. Very fresh and crunchy. Sweet Potato Fry- done nice and dark (double fried) and still full full of flavor but no grease AT ALL. excellent job. Atmosphere- low key, dim lights and excellent music mix. Easy to slip into an indulgent mode. Very comfortable in the diner decor and the simple bell used to signal the next order being ready. OVERALL - WOW! Will be back. Can't wait for patio season! On a whim on a perfect day this summer, I found myself on Center Island with a delightful 2-person-bike rental. My companion and I biked to Ward Island and stumbled upon this little gem of a cafe. We sat on the backyard patio and it was a brilliant sight. Perfectly tree-shaded area with a gentle breeze to set off your view of the lovely garden and the lake behind it. The service was good: warm and attentive. The food was nicely done, and I enjoyed my salad (very filling) and chatting in the pleasant surroundings. This is a perfect place to stop for a break, a light meal or a cool drink on a warm day. I will definitely check back upon returning to The Island. Read more

One of the best pub experience ever. Excellent choice of food and service. We were a group of 6 we didn't have any reservation's. We all were served very nicely, drinks were filled constantly, manager was present and asked us how everything was and suggested us to stay for Karaoke as well. Food quality was excellent, we had wings for appetizer's. They were huge jumbo wing's and it was half price during the leafs game. Rest of all the food were excellent. The nachos are to die for, and I don't even like nachos very much. The menu was severely limited due to the incredible business that is Pride Week, and I was at a stretch finding something vegetarian and to my liking. After being told that they were accepting no substitutions (understandably, but I just wanted no mayo and onion on the veggie burger), I went with my second choice, the curry. I wasn't expecting much, but it succeeded my expectations. Not fantastic and it needed more than a sprinkle of salt, but pleasant nonetheless. Co-diners raved about their nachos and pulled pork. Service was a bit scattered due to business, but were very friendly. When a beer was brought to our table that wasn't ordered -- but welcomed! -- he let us have it on the house.
