I had been to the other mean bao location and was already familiar with their fantastic food and service. So I was overjoyed to see they opened a second location closer to where I live! I've been going to this restaurant for over 30 years! 3 different owner, yet same Cheff (one of them) same food! Best Manchurain Chicken, Beef Briske Curry, Roasted Pork with Tofu, Cantonese Chowmien, Deep fried Spicy Shrimp.. Portion is lots smaller than before, but understood.. all are expensive! Right on Dundas and Elizabeth, this little gem is sort of hidden downstairs. My Chinese friends refer to it as 'the basement' rather than its name. The bigger the group, the cheaper the meal. Dim Sum is good and very inexpensive ($2.20 - $3.70 per item). If you are going for lunch during the week, get there EARLY as it fills up very quickly. Once you have had lunch there, you will understand why. The Dim Sum is served from carts, so there are times when some of it may not be as hot as it should be, but I have never found that to be a problem since the food is very good. The decor is very basic with plastic table clothes, but the restaurant is quite clean, so that is not a problem. I go there regularly and recommend it.

I ordered two plates of steamed dumplings (10 dumplings per plate) and a bowl of shrimp wonton soup. The meal was simple in a traditional Beijing style but also very enjoyable and very filling. For more a traditional meal, try the pork with chives dumplings served steamed or pan fried.

I used to eat here on a weekly basis. Great! Huge portions, very reasonable prices. When I visit Toronto, I often go back to Buddha's. Great location also - close to Kensington and Bathurst/College area.
I usually get imitation duck - a layered (a little oily) tofu appetizer. I love the mushroom dishes.
Re: the service and atmosphere: I've had both great and crabby servers here, but the lady that handles the bills (I think it's the owner) has always been super nice to us. The restaurant is clean (usually packed); decor is minimal. I don't visit for the decor.

I absolutely love this place! Although the atmosphere of this restaurant is rather dark, gloomy, and sketchy, they have one of the best steaks and lobster in town.
Usually we order bbq ribs and potato fries for appetizers.
These appetizers are usually mediocre.
As for the entree we always order the rib eye steak as well as 2lb-4lb lobster.
The rib eye steak at House of chan is one of the best steaks I have ever had. The steak at House of Chan melts in your mouth as you eat it. This type of steak should only be eaten if you enjoy the natural taste of steak, and are expecting no additional added flavours.
The lobster is usually just as good as the steak. They offer you a rich butter as a dip. I really enjoy this dish as well.

When the weather starts to get chilly I have to start making mother's dumplings part of my regular routine. It's one of the best values in Chinatown, just take it home and make your own rice. fast, convenient and I've never had anything I didn't like.
