I had the Ping Gai chicken which was excellent and came with Rice and Salad. Total with 2 beers came to $53. A great deal for pretty good food in an upscale pub atmosphere. Will definitely return. Katsura is tucked away in a separate, but connected, building right beside the main building of the Prince Hotel. The food here is very good but only slightly better than the cheaper places in the area. The teppanyaki tables are good. The sushi is fresh. The prices are high and the portions are not particularly large. So why would someone choose this place over its cheaper competitors? It's the decor and the service that makes this place stand out. From the moment you step in out of the snow, you are surrounded by tasteful Japanese decor. In the main dining area, the place is elegant, simple and to the point. The nachos are to die for, and I don't even like nachos very much. The menu was severely limited due to the incredible business that is Pride Week, and I was at a stretch finding something vegetarian and to my liking. After being told that they were accepting no substitutions (understandably, but I just wanted no mayo and onion on the veggie burger), I went with my second choice, the curry. I wasn't expecting much, but it succeeded my expectations. Not fantastic and it needed more than a sprinkle of salt, but pleasant nonetheless. Co-diners raved about their nachos and pulled pork. Service was a bit scattered due to business, but were very friendly. When a beer was brought to our table that wasn't ordered -- but welcomed! -- he let us have it on the house. this is the first time i have ever decided to try out the actual authentic korean BBQ grilling experience instead of the canadian-nized all-you-can grill buffets and ohhh boy was it the best choice of my life! this place is not all you can eat so you only have a choice from eating one type of meat or the other but oh my gooodness, the meat here was sooo tender and juicy with sooooo much flavour to them! i swear to you this place serves up the best Galbi (beef short ribs) i have ever eaten and i'm sooo upset i didn't know about it soooner!! the Galbi here is ACTUAL MEAT, not the blubber stick of fat you'd find at other restaurants! the special grilling dish costs about $40 between 2 people (so basically $20 each) and it is sooo worth it as the portions are sooo huge along with all those side dishes they give you (more than 5! which can be refilled whenever you want) with also a hot stone tofu soup on the side. this place will give you a run for your money! serving on the menu says only for 2 people but can definetly serve up to 4! there was so much stuff left over to eat but in the end i wasn't able to finish it. :( so if you're ever craving for real korean meat, come here! this place realizes QUALITY over QUAINTITY. yum! My friends and I always enjoy Tokyo Kitchen. We've never been disappointed. The Gyoza are quite good. I tend to order the Donbury dishes and I go back again and again for them. My friends occasionally go for the ramen. They use the less common dark style with a touch of soy sauce in the broth. I'd recommend trying it at least once if you've only had light ramen before. The green tea icecream must be homemade. It's the most fantastic green tea icecream I've ever tasted. It's creamy and very mildly sweet with a real depth to the flavor - perfectly capturing the Japanese knack for subtle sweetness. Read more
