Found this place one morning after a party and had breakfast with a friend. Loved the food, loved the decor. Restaurant is clean and the food is adequately priced for their downtown location. You don't feel rushed to finish up and get out - the chef guy even left a pot of coffee on our table so we could refill it ourselves. The chef guy does have an attitude but he is not obnoxious. Sometimes he gets bored and will eavesdrop on your conversation and make commentary, or crack a few jokes with you. He is authentic, and so is his restaurant. I often go here for lunch since I work nearby. The Japanese chef is very friendly and welcoming. I've had an incredibly pleasant experience every time just being in this quiet and calm restaurant (although every once in a while it's absolutely full with a lunch crowd!) I like the sushi, salmon nigiri in particular, and their uni is very very good. They don't carry toro at all, by choice. Squid, scallop, hamachi, all great. Rolls are very lovely presented. Everyone I've ever taken with me to this place has enjoyed it, whether they were sushi-addicted like me or just into it once in a while. I'm definetly going back. Read more

This review is way past due; I've been coming here frequently for over 5 years now for no reason other than it is FANTASTIC. The master chef and his wife are such lovely people who's efforts and dedication to the restaurant really have a great influence on the atmosphere. Did I mention that the food is amazing? The rolls are made fresh and just simply really well. I love the design of the seating area and how the booths are separated it really gives a cozy feel to the place. We had chef's special sushi and sashimi plate, caterpillar roll, bibimbab. Everything was fresh, nicely presented. I had thick and fresh cuts of tuna, yellow tail, unagi, and even ikura sushi in the sushi plate, it was a nice selection of nigiri sushi. Caterpillar roll was bigger than I thought, and it came with miso soup and salad. One of my Japanese friend ordered bibimbab, and I didn't know it is served in the heated stone pot, it was very unique. The pot was still hot until we finish our meal! We spend around $60 for 3, considering it was dinner time, I guess it's reasonable price. Also we were seated in Tatami room which was very nice. It seems great for small party around 6 people. Starving while walking out from the subway, my boyfriend recommended this place since it was his go to place with his buddies for sushi. I was thinking that since it was a la carte it would be more expensive but surprisingly it wasn't. The place was quite busy and the service was somewhat slow. We ordered 2 supreme bento boxes at 10 dollars a piece and a spicy crunchy california roll as well as extra shrimp tempura. It was more than enough to fill us up and we had leftovers as well. They gave out generous portions for their price and the quality is good for its price. The service was decent and the bill wasn't expensive at all. I would definitely come back. Read more
