....The noodles arrive in a large, shallow bowl with an elegant shape. Arrayed on top of the noodles in orderly rows are the pork, shrimp and a darkly crisp spring roll, along with strips of vinegared carrot and daikon, shredded cucumber, fresh mint leaves and bean sprouts. Nuoc cham sauce arrives on the side in a pretty little star shaped ramekin. The aroma of the grilled pork tantalizes. It has been sliced thin to maximize the crispy charred exterior, while still being pleasantly fatty and tender. The spring roll is perfectly fried and filled with a dense mixture of delicately chopped meat and vegetable. The shrimp has been finely minced and mixed with a good dose of garlic, before being formed around a sugarcane skewer, reminiscent of a sophisticated Pogo.....

I'm no connoisseur of sushi or Japanese food, but I have had it a few times elsewhere in Toronto, this is certainly the best experience each time I go. The restaurant itself is clean and nice, the food is good and the service is quick. (Not always friendly, but quick) I usually order pretty generic stuff- california roll, bento box, veg. tempura, etc. Cant beat this place, IMO.Read more

I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. Now aside from that, I've been visiting this restaurant for roughly 20 years. My Mother and I found it a long time ago looking for a good Japanese restaurant that wasn't all the way downtown. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. I have plenty left over for lunch and am hoping the tempura will crisp up under the broiler today! Thanks to A.J. & staff for making it a lovely experience with my needs ;o)Read more

Right on Dundas and Elizabeth, this little gem is sort of hidden downstairs. My Chinese friends refer to it as 'the basement' rather than its name. The bigger the group, the cheaper the meal. Dim Sum is good and very inexpensive ($2.20 - $3.70 per item). If you are going for lunch during the week, get there EARLY as it fills up very quickly. Once you have had lunch there, you will understand why. The Dim Sum is served from carts, so there are times when some of it may not be as hot as it should be, but I have never found that to be a problem since the food is very good. The decor is very basic with plastic table clothes, but the restaurant is quite clean, so that is not a problem. I go there regularly and recommend it.Read more

Some may or may not know, but Okasame is where you allow the chef to choose what you eat for that meal. I have been allowing the chef to pick for our dinner now when we go there. I found the chef is a really friendly person who likes to socialize with his guests. I hardly find places like this.
I like the atmosphere there. It has traditional tatami rooms and decorated with japanese dolls and wall items. Which is hard to find in usual Japanese cuisines. I found the food quality to be great, although some might argue it is expensive. I do not find this place highly overpriced. I like quality rather than quantity. This is also why the chef has never served me sushi since you can eat that anywhere else (such as an All you can eat sushi). The appetizer which I usually have started off with is a dish which consists of 5 to 7 small dishes. It contained two different dishes of Japanese abalone. One of them was a softer texture, which tasted great. Another dish was shark fin, I found it unique since I usually drink in a soup. In stead this time I ate it as an appetizer dish. One of the ones I loved from this small dish appetizer was the small fishes one. They are white and small. They were soft and chewy. I loved this appetizers with its many different texture and favored dishes.
One of the main entrees was the fresh fish which was served as sashmi first by using one side of the fish. The other half is cleverly decorated while you finish the sashmi. Afterwards the server will then take the second half for the chef to grill it. One fish with two different taste!
I also tried the fresh clam served with lemon. Which was interesting how the lemon mixed with the clam perfectly. The texture was great to chew on.
I found the crab sake rice to be great to. Since it is not your usual fried rice. Some people loved it whereas some females found it a bit to salty. Nevertheless It was good.
Also the plum sake was sweet and perfect for ladies that don't like the regular sake.
Overall, I will recommend this place to everyone!Read more

Not only does your food come fast, but it's been marinating for quite some time. This is how Indian food ( and Pakistani) is actually cooked. If you go to an Indian restaurant and you're waiting for an hour and a half for your dish thinking it's going to be fresh and that's how it's made, you're wrong. Indian food takes HOURS to make. The sauces and spices need time to sink into the meat, and they do exactly that at Tika house.
The service is great, they're always on top of your water and they don't expect you to tip!
People might complain about the atmosphere but the reason why they made the place like that is because in India and Pakistan the best tasting places are done up like Tika house so you can focus on the food instead of the decor. The washrooms are very nice though!
Best Indian place in the city. Don't bother going anywhere else.Read more

I absolutely love this place! Although the atmosphere of this restaurant is rather dark, gloomy, and sketchy, they have one of the best steaks and lobster in town.
Usually we order bbq ribs and potato fries for appetizers.
These appetizers are usually mediocre.
As for the entree we always order the rib eye steak as well as 2lb-4lb lobster.
The rib eye steak at House of chan is one of the best steaks I have ever had. The steak at House of Chan melts in your mouth as you eat it. This type of steak should only be eaten if you enjoy the natural taste of steak, and are expecting no additional added flavours.
The lobster is usually just as good as the steak. They offer you a rich butter as a dip. I really enjoy this dish as well.Read more

We both ordered Tempura Udon. The food was no doubt one of the best in Toronto with regards to quality and quantity. Server was okay and service was good. However the other guy behind the counter was snobbish. My friend called for the bill and signalled the guy. The guy just looked at my friend for a few seconds not showing any acknowledgement or emotion which made us think this was something. He just moved away from the counter and continued doing what he was doing. Our server came with the bill shortly and I asked if her colleague understood my friend. We then realized that the guy did understand my friend's request for the bill but he did not show a bit of reaction or acknowledgement. I consider that disrespectful. A little thing. We sat on the long sofa. It was comfortable but due to the depth of the sofa it was hard to sit down and get up considering it took so much space under the table.Read more
