The first thing i notice when i walked into POGUE MAHONES was that all the waitresses wore plaid thigh-length skirts - i am glad i arrived here! It is a kind of dark place with dark wood all over. Also it is a very busy and noisy place, i can barely hear myself talking. The waiters/waitresses were very attentive as they came back every once in awhile to check on our needs a few times. All of our food arrive fresh and hot. My coffee was fresh and scalding hot, it came in a generous sized mug too. My seafood chowder was hot and it was very creamy, not bad! My chicken wings were satisfactory, no complaints here! Okay now my Grand Spuds with irish-poutine-style sucked!!! The fries had melted cheese and gravy on top, but the freshcut homemade fries, tasted totally off. My friend who had fries in his dish also complained about the fries tasting YUCK! My other friends were very satisfied with their dishes (fish n chips, liver n onions w mashed potato, chicken pot pie w mashed potatoes, jambalaya). Good service, satisfactory food, unpleasant atmosphere (too noisy)... would i visit again? i dont think i will. Overall satisfactory! Read more

I am addicted to Indian food. I've been to just about every Indian restaurant in T.O. Without reservation ( pardon the pun ) I can say that this place is at the top of my list. Not only is the food fantastic but the price is an unbelievable 10 dollars for lunch and 12 for dinner. ALL YOU CAN EAT. You can order specialty dishes from the kitchen but the buffet has so many selections that you don't need to. Superb, fresh made naan and as many poppadums as you want are included in the price as well as desert. You just can't beat it. I discovered this place about 3 years ago and since then I have been going once a week, every week. No kidding, it's THAT good. Not once have I been disappointed. Definitely the best bar / restaurant in the area. Great Patio in the back and very cozy atmosphere inside. This is a designated heritage building and there are old pictures of the area on the walls which is a nice touch. The food is great and it's a mix of Italian, Mexican, American. What I like most is the open kitchen. The food is prepped in the open! It's a refreshing change from almost all other restaurants that prep food behind closed doors (makes you wonder what's really crawling in the kitchen). The Bar has good selection on tap and there is a comfortable lounging area in the back by the fireplace as well. If you are looking for something in this area, I would definitely recommend going here. Read more

Came in on Yelp recommendations to get a quick bite. Turned into a gourmet experience! Margarita- Only had better at an authentic Mexican place in Bradford (MexiCanada). Wonderful traditional flavor and properly made and presented. Dry Rib- Excellent. Wonderful taste, not overwhelming the meat, meat done to perfection. Was told it was more spicy than the wet rib, loved the heat. Had it with a nice Malbec Coleslaw - best I have ever had. The sauce was creamy but light and didn't overwhelm the veg. Very fresh and crunchy. Sweet Potato Fry- done nice and dark (double fried) and still full full of flavor but no grease AT ALL. excellent job. Atmosphere- low key, dim lights and excellent music mix. Easy to slip into an indulgent mode. Very comfortable in the diner decor and the simple bell used to signal the next order being ready. OVERALL - WOW! Will be back. Can't wait for patio season! This place is by far the BEST Restaurant I've ever eaten in!!! and here's why; 1- Unless your extremely hungry, the home cooked portions are so big, you can barely finish, so in most cases there's left overs for the next day. 2- No one in the city comes close to giving you that much food for that price, because no one has this kind of turnover! 3- Everything , even the bacon bits are real, nothing is from a can, the soups are home receipies, and the place is so busy that the food can be any fresher! 4- The servers might be a little on the old side, but you still get your meal faster than any other restaurant I ve ever been to! 5- The seats are real leather, ive seen them watering the plants, and you can custom tailor every part of your meal to suit even the pickiest of eaters.
