This place is overpriced for what you get. My friend and I shared a light dinner, a glass of wine each and tea, and our bill (with tip and tax) came to $100. I ordered the gnocci in tomato sauce, which was very good, and the bread was tasty. But for a meatless meal with no dessert and no appetizer, the prices are too high. It seems like you're paying for atmosphere. The service was pretty good, but at the end when it got busier we had to signal for service. I think there's better value out there for the money. Seemed like a lot of people there could "expense" their dinners, which explains the crowd. Read more

We have gone to this restaurant over a dozen times and always are pleased with our meal. For the price, you really can't beat it. The atmosphere is very nice. It's a big restaurant and the tables are spaced apart nicely so you can have a conversation without worrying about everyone around you hearing. And they have great big circular booths that are usually available - a great touch. We have our regular server - I believe his name is Pavel - and he's fantastic. He's not pushy, he's unobtrusive and always friendly. One of the city's best waiters for sure. When it comes to the food, the taste is great. I usually enjoy a pasta as a main and for appetizers we mix it up. The selection is great and I've never had a meal I didn't enjoy. The prices are fantastic. For a downtown Toronto restaurant like this I'm always amazed when I get the bill. Often times we have two appetizers, two entrees and a full bottle of wine and the bill still comes to under $100. The food here is very good but only slightly better than the cheaper places in the area. The teppanyaki tables are good. The sushi is fresh. The prices are high and the portions are not particularly large. So why would someone choose this place over its cheaper competitors? It's the decor and the service that makes this place stand out. Our absolute favourite for authentic italian. You know the restaurant is a gem when the local Italians eat there with their whole families (babies too!). As Marcello's is always packed, go early to get a seat (especially if your party is larger than 4) or expect to wait in line at least 30 minutes or longer. Service is prompt when seated and the lively atmosphere makes it very homey. The waiters are efficient, no-nonsense and definitely not snobby(as in other places), and they know the menus. On regular nights we share an appetizer, and dessert with our meals and we are stuffed!! The tirimisu is home made and heavenly; you could easily have seconds. I have been to other restaurants on College street, and quite honestly, at Marcello's the dishes are on par and above on quality. Arrived late, cook had left but as we just left without food, the owner and his wife invited us back in and his chef wife made wonderful chicken Alfredo and done in seemingly minutes. Perfect for an after dinner drink without all the noise of a club or lounge. $5 Martinis until 12 can't be beat and with nearly 100 varieties, I have yet to try them all but I try to get different ones each time. If you want to snack on something well you drink get there before 1. Great place to go as a group, but get there around 9 before it starts to fill up. Ask if the back room is available.
