I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. Now aside from that, I've been visiting this restaurant for roughly 20 years. My Mother and I found it a long time ago looking for a good Japanese restaurant that wasn't all the way downtown. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. I have plenty left over for lunch and am hoping the tempura will crisp up under the broiler today! Thanks to A.J. & staff for making it a lovely experience with my needs ;o) Read more

Mars uptown is a classic diner with a twist -- it's got a fun mars / space theme to the decorum, and overall it's well kept, clean, and above average of what you can expect from the traditional greasy spoon type diner. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict which came, as excpected, with two poached eggs, on english muffins, and peameal bacon, with some potatoes and a slice of orange. Overall the presentation was good for a diner. The orange was sliced in twist and nicely displayed, the eggs benny were artistically smothered in hollandaise, and the potatoes looked greasily tastilicious. So how was it? Well those benny fans among us will know how difficult it is to achieve the perfect benny. This was not perfection, but was above average, decent in every way. I'm still on the search for Toronto's best eggs benedict, but if I had to go back to Mars and have another I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. So first of all the waitress asked how I wanted the eggs poached -- a good sign. If they don't ask you know you're in trouble. Unfortunately, even though I asked for medium poached I got one medium and one hard egg. Not a meal breaker, but still not so great. The hollandaise sauce was a little on the gelatinous side, but was flavorful, so I can forgive the consistency. It wasn't the best hollandaise I've had, but it certainly wasn't the worst either. The peameal bacon on the other hand was awesome. I'm actually not a big fan of the peameal (I prefer standard), but they did it right -- grilled to perfection, and the slice thickness was just right too. The english muffins were the standard affair -- toasted too lightly for my liking, but I don't get in a knot about the muffins unless something is terribly wrong. The potatoes looked and smelled amazing, unfortunately they failed to deliver the same oral "oomph" that they give upon the first visual inspection. Maybe more spices would do the trick, or add in some cheese. They were fine though, it's not like I didn't eat them, I just wasn't wowed by them. As for the service, nothing to complain about. The service was actually quite good considering the diner type atmosphere. Warm, friendly, adequate in speed. So, to summarize, Mars is a decent diner with decent food at good prices. I wouldn't hesitate to go back if someone else wanted to go or I was hungry and passing by, but I'm definitely still on the search for a really killer benny in Toronto. Read more

I've always wanted to try jamon iberico and we were able to get our first taste of the famed iberico and it was indeed fantastic! The waiter that sat us down was extremely nice as was the waitress serving us. The enthusiastic attitude of both of them definitely made this place having amazing service. The service is not the same at the Casey's near AMC in Scarborough. The service here was outstanding. On a whim on a perfect day this summer, I found myself on Center Island with a delightful 2-person-bike rental. My companion and I biked to Ward Island and stumbled upon this little gem of a cafe. We sat on the backyard patio and it was a brilliant sight. Perfectly tree-shaded area with a gentle breeze to set off your view of the lovely garden and the lake behind it. The service was good: warm and attentive. The food was nicely done, and I enjoyed my salad (very filling) and chatting in the pleasant surroundings. This is a perfect place to stop for a break, a light meal or a cool drink on a warm day. I will definitely check back upon returning to The Island. Read more

Even a snowstorm doesn't keep Toronto diners down, as we discovered last weekend at Jump in January. It was quieter than usual due to the weather, but our food was very good. We had an extremely affable waiter from England. The service started out a bit slow, with water poured and wine ordered but 25 minutes before some bread arrived. If we hadn't been so hungry beforehand we might not have noticed. Otherwise, the food was excellent. The Bacon-Wrapped Boneless Quail appetizer was absolutely delicious. The Wild & Tame Mushroom Soup was good, but as we told our server, it needed some cream to give it more depth and round out the taste. The Mahogany-Glazed Black Cod with Lentils was very good, and my partner had the delicious Beef Tenderloin. We'll come back again, but the pacing is a bit slow, so you can't be in a hurry if you're dining here. Read more

The food was magnificent, that's the only reason we will be coming back again for sure. The atmosphere is bad: it's very dark, loud and very, very, very tight. The service isn't the greatest either. Although the waitresses are very nice, but they're in their own world sometimes walking around dreaming or changing music when customers are waiting. We've waited just for our check for about 30 minutes. I don't understand why they don't allow carry-out - they would be making tons of cash with their diamond in the kitchen. We had the brunch/lunch menu. The waitresses were very attentive. Served right away. Food was quite tasty, although the only negative part about it was that it came out a lukewarm. The catfish lafyette was delicious! Yam and yukon hash was good, but would've been better if served hot, as potatoes tend to get rubbery when it gets cold. The ribs were not bad either.
