Too often, the animal farming industry has become synonymous with animal cruelty. Here in British Columbia, more and more people are saying no to “factory raised” farming, citing it is cruel to animals, detrimental to the health of humans, and unsustainable for the planet.
“The conventional system is not healthy, and if we don’t change the system, we could lose the small, vitally important ethical farmers we have,” says Victor Straatman, co-founder of Meatme.ca, a subscription-based company selling ethical, sustainable meats, poultry and seafood. “Supporting our local food economy is vitally important if we want to create a sustainable future for the next generation. Meatme.ca is a free channel, which is creating a steadier market outlet for local farmers.”
