I liked the décor, the friendly staff & owners.I ordered the Salmon & Chips (fish & chips made with Salmon instead of Cod or Halibut, which they also had). The Salmon was Wild, & delicious. They have specials & Seniors day, which is nice. This was my second time here. The 1st time I took out of town guests from Okanagan who used to live on West Coast of Vancouver Island. The batter is light and crispy and they offer all the options for fish and chips. However, the purist in me always goes for the halibut and you get pretty decent sized portions considering the price. So a bunch of us finally headed down to the Blue Canoe for dinner. A few had been there before, and a few hadn't, but we always go and critique places together. Absolutely loved the atmosphere, not a detail was spared in the design of the restaurant. The real tester is of course the food, and it did not disappoint. They've thrown together some amazing flavours and clearly taken some chances that have worked out in their favour. The Drummettes....I don't eat chicken wings anywhere, but these ones were in a soy sauce of some sort that was fantastic!! The BBQ Salmon was probably the best salmon that I've ever had at a restaurant....not overcooked like most places. So much flavour. That was it for me, but others had a wide variety of food and rave reviews on all counts. A few questions on the sides that they came with, but generous portions and smiles all around. Hey Oceansider (see below), the wait person should not have told your kids to get their hands off the windows. That should be your job. Why should they have to clean your kid's sticky handprints off the windows? I really can't understand why people will give a restaurant a bad rating because they can't control their children. We go to Yorkys regularly and we find it a great chip shop! The fish and chips are as good as any we get in Wales!!! The paper wrap and the vinegar and salt splash make it authentic.
